Exposed Vocals just caught an interview with up and coming musician 2J aka Squinty
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
2J : I grew up in a small town called Castlerea in Co. Roscommon, in the west of Ireland, which I often talk about in my music. I’m the oldest of 3 kids in a working class family. When not working, our parents liked to go out, therefore our weekends were often spent in the pub with friends as our parents drank with their parents, it was a great time. It was in the pub, well actually upstairs, in the flat over the pub, where the publican lived, while hanging out with friends, where I found the Slim Shady EP and my life began to change and I developed a deep love for hip-hop.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
2J : Stay true to yourself and be consistent, believe dreams come true.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
2J : If I forget words, mumble or stumble on stage, I just keep going and try not to disrupt the flow of energy being delivered.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
2J : I was part of a collective years ago that had gigs in Galway and Dublin and while living in Germany I hosted karaoke in an Irish bar which was eventful indeed hahaha
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
2J : I’m working from home using FL studio and recording on a Beringer Mike, sending my work to producers for mixing and mastering.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
2J : Social media is a great way to promote music, I’ve had CDs sell in bars and the local Cafe but to be honest my music isn’t well promoted and I feel reletavely unheard this far.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
2J : I’d love to record in Dublin with Eminem, Manifesting!
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
2J : I’m focusing on conveying a more spiritual message in my music now and also begging a story telling series on my YouTube channel, make sure subscribe x
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
2J : Most certainly drinking and taking drugs.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
2J : Watching my growth as a creative.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
