Exposed Vocals just caught an interview with U.K Musician Jim Redgewell
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Jim Redgewell:
I was born in Bexleyheath which is now part of Greater London. At the age of eight I moved to Southend-on-sea, Essex. When I was 21 years of age someone brought a guitar into work, showed me a few cords and that’s how it started.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Jim Redgewell:
As a singer songwriter I get my songs recorded either in a recording studio or at home and promote the songs on Spotify and other websites. The only live work I’ve done recently is at some Open Mic nights.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Jim Redgewell:
Mistakes happen all the time. My advice is simple, just carry on and pretend that nothing happened.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Jim Redgewell:
Most of my live playing was done back in the 1970s. I can’t think of anything interesting but I would say that it’s a problem for the daytime job in staying awake in the day after working all night.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Jim Redgewell:
Most of my songs have been recorded and at the moment I am just working on the few new songs.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Jim Redgewell:
I concentrate on Spotify. The only way to get songs promoted is to get them on playlists. I create some playlists of my own and I pay other people to put my songs on playlist.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Jim Redgewell:
I would have loved to work with the following jazz artists, Joe Pass, Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum and Erroll Garner.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Jim Redgewell:
I have a music company in America who is promoting two of my songs and I’m looking to get a better following on Spotify.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Jim Redgewell:
I would go to university to study physics.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Jim Redgewell:
I have another 20 songs that I have recorded, which will be uploaded to Spotify in the near future and I am continuing to write.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
Jim Redgewell:
I have the following advice based on experience to share with people:
Trust absolutely nobody.
Talent has got nothing to do with business.
Social media is a waste of time.
Marketing is all that matters.
Take responsibility for your own life.
Learn from your mistakes and carry on.
