Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I was born in Jacksonville, moved to Charleston shortly after and always felt a real connection with music since I can remember. The family had a great record collection and my older brother exposed me to a lot of amazing music. After seeing a schoolmate play guitar along with a Beatles record, I went home and begged for a guitar for my 12th birthday. I started writing songs not long after, and it kinda just went from there.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Ha! Give me some!
I would just say to stick with it, believe in yourself, and always be nice.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Yes, I have been known to make mistakes from time to time… I perform live a lot so its bound to happen. I really just try to laugh it off and not take myself too seriously.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Currently I am concentrating on the record, but planning an East Coast tour this coming fall.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
I’m recording at Hybrid Audio Solutions, an amazing facility and a perfect fit for this project.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Social media definitely plays a big part in getting the word out. I just re-launched my website and am very excited about that.
Live performance is also a great way to connect with people.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Where do I start!
Dead? Tom Petty for sure. I still haven’t gotten over that one because I respect him so much as a songwriter. Prince and Bowie were both huge influences and amazing performers.
Alive? Nothing would beat sharing a stage with Mick and Keith. Dylan and McCartney are still alive as well – too many to name.
As for where – with those names above, anyplace, anytime!
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Other than being in the studio and recording, I’m looking forward to shooting a full length live performance video very soon.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Probably digging a ditch. After I got turned on to music, that was really all I wanted to do, and I never really put a lot of energy into anything else.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Aiming for my EP to be released late spring, then looking forward to getting out and playing behind some new songs. I also plan to release the full album in the fall around the tour.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
The guys at the studio and the musicians who’ve worked so hard and played so wonderfully on this project, as well as fans and friends who continue to believe in me and support what I do.
