Exposed Vocals just caught an exclusive interview with Vernon Little
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in the Bronx, NY. As far as my start, it came about from a trip to a local DJ’s apartment. A friend of mine named Bernard took me up to DJ Joe Stick’s place. When I got there, I was impressed with all of the equipment, records, posters, etc. Joe asked me if I wanted to rap. I gave it a shot and the juices have been flowing ever since.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
There are numerous web-sites that promoters use to advertise gigs. As far as airplay, find the most popular internet stations that play your genre, then submit your music to them.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
I’ve started out of place on a track before. All I could do was get back on track for the second verse.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
I’ve performed up and down the east coast, and the mid-west. Nothing too much out of the norm has happened.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
I don’t have my own studio. I’ve been recording in more upscale studios though. Most recently was D.I.T.C. I believe they use Pro Tools.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
I really work the internet. I’ve used magazines, newspapers, and radio as well.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
I’d like to perform in the UK with LL Cool J, KRS One, Kirk Franklin, and Mary Mary. Those are some of my favorite artist who actually perform well. As far as the UK, one of my closest friends from high school lives out there.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
I plan to put out a new EP in the fall (autumn).
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
I still would like to go to trade school and learn air conditioning and refrigeration.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Shows and new music.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
