Exposed Vocals just caught an exclusive interview with Shandell C.
I genuinely just want my music to touch others…Like the kid who is lost in the world, the single mom searching for hope, the gay boy/girl being bullied at school with no one to talk to at home… I just want to help make people feel good about themselves again, without
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in Baltimore,Md, But I was born in Richmond,VA (Go Warriors)
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Ah yeah (points to self). I know a lot of great artist Flo’Jo from Baltimore, go check out his mixtape “Midnight Music” on Soundcloud right now!
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Of course, I do, all artist do. Sometimes I forget my words to a song, most of my lyrics are freestyled so I learn them after I record. When I forget I just make up something to go in place of the words I can’t remember. Won’t catch me slipping (LOL)
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
No. I truly wish I was touring though, I think about that all the time. I can say I have had some of the funniest moments performing though, literally had this dude screaming “LET ME GET YOUR NUMBER SHORTY” in the middle of my performance.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
YES! I have been web surfing for new mics and interfaces. Thinking of just building something small, right now I just have a mic and my computer that I record from. Still learning the engineering side of mixing and mastering on my own. These studios are too expensive for me, so I just learn as I go.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
I get on my social media and I just post my music, over and over again. I also use promotional services like Reverbnation, Spinnup, Esc…… I find what works for me is communicating with the following I do have, I am always active on my social media because I want to build relationships with the people who support my music and career. I think that’s what is important as an artist, fan connection.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
I would love to perform in Amsterdam!! Dead artist I would choose MJ, Alive artist Anderson Paak, Logic, Kendrick Lamar, The Internet. I picked MJ because the man was the best that ever did it, just to be around such a brilliant and artistic mind like that would be Epic! I love Anderson Paak he is a talented brother man, if you don’t know who he is your living in a bubble. Kendrick Lamar, like do I really have to say why I would love to perform with this guy?? Its freaking Kendrick Lamar! Man is a lyrical genius, he is the most woke person in the industry. Kendrick came in and just shut things down! The internet is a dope band like, they are likeminded when it comes to music. I can relate their vibes and music. Very artistic, dynamic band of friends, I think they are the missing link in R&B/Soul music. They are not scared to take risk, and they support one another’s dreams, it’s not just about one person with them.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Whats Next? I am working on a mixtape and an EP. The mixtape is going to be dope as ever, so will the EP. Trying to get on somebodies tour, so if you know any people looking for opening acts Holla At Me Shorty!! lol
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Producing or engineering, I did always want to be a Veterinarian, but with the coast of school I would be in debt for life…Like I am now. Screw you Sallie Mae & Navient, all I wanted to do was get an education.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Look forward to dope a** music, dope a** videos, dope A** shows, and hopefully a dope a** tour
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
