Exposed Vocals just caught an exclusive interview with daFeaux
Drawing inspiration from both the past and present, artist daFeaux truly inspires. His well-rounded sound is influenced by Prince, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Nipsey Hussle and the Weekend. An outlet to share his life experiences, the ultimate goal behind his creative process is to provoke the audience to genuinely LISTEN – not only to the music, but to themselves, the vibrations of life, and to the inner voice that only speaks through feeling. His music is a melodic guidebook, a journey to achieve strength through vulnerability.
Originally from Panama, daFeaux traces his deep love for music back to his roots. In fact, it was his brother’s success that inspired him to write his first song. To this day, the moments he feels most alive are when he is performing in front of people, unapologetically laying it all on the line and letting his emotions go. Some might say it is in his blood, regardless, all would agree his music is unabashedly authentic.
Beloved by his fans for his captivating sound and ability to invoke raw emotion daFeaux has begun to gain notoriety. This past year he had the pleasure of performing at venues throughout Florida as well as New York and Canada, including Miami Live 2017, and Sunfest Music Festival.
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
daFeaux: Well my story is a dichotomy of two different worlds merged in one. Most of my childhood was spent in Panama, going back and forth every summer from birth until I was a teenager. I lived in Panama for sometime but then ended up coming back to Florida where I decided to become an artist after graduating high school.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
daFeaux: The main thing to focus on when trying to get gigs, airplay and etc. is YOURSELF. In the sense of honing your craft more than doing things to gain exposure. You can easily lose yourself nowadays trying to get someone to notice you, so make sure the work you put in makes you undeniable.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
daFeaux: Ive made tons of mistakes performing. Not rehearsing enough, saying too much, picking the wrong songs for the audience and so on. If it wasn’t for the time I also spend freestyling, my ability to improvise during these mistakes wouldn’t be strong at all. Best advice I could give is don’t practice to be perfect, but practice everything in your set enough to know how to improvise when need be.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
daFeaux: The last tour had me in a secret mansion in Brooklyn near Williamsburg. We had no clue we were staying at a mansion/recording studio prior to booking the Airbnb. But once we got settled in and started making plans for the night, a barrage of women came through the front door that were also staying at this same location for the Essence festival. Needless to say what happened at the secret mansion, stayed at the secret mansion.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
daFeaux: Right now Im still bouncing around from a few local studios while building mine. I might invest in the Kaotica Mic though, looks pretty fun.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
daFeaux: The best tool that I have used to promote my music is Fiverr. Its not the best but it’s a good start if your on a budget.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
daFeaux: If I could tour with any one it would be Pusha T,Kid Cudi, Prince & Erykah Badu. I have like 10 other artists I would tour with but essentially I chose these artists because they don’t just perform. They provide a full experience when they do their music. We would start on planet earth then end up in another galaxy.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
daFeaux: What is next is OMNIPURPLE. My debut album. The melodic guidebook/ journey to achieve strength through vulnerability.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
daFeaux: If I wasn’t making music I’d probably be a barber/human resource manager.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
daFeaux: Fans can look forward to more variety in my music. My music is similar to human behaviour, constantly changing and growing.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
daFeaux: I want to shout out all the producers on my upcoming OMNIPURPLE album. Big shout out to my Panamanian family and my little piece of paradise called West Palm Beach. Much love to my loved ones.
