Exposed Vocals is back and just caught an exclusive interview with Maze
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
We all grew up in London.
The love of music, and when the whole Britpop era of the 90’s started it inspired us to play instruments and we have been playing in bands ever since.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
I honestly think it’s easier now than ever before to get gigs. Airplay is hard, good PR campaigns and hard work, nothing falls in your lap and you have to approach as many people as possible. I have been stung by a bad PR company for 1k and there a lot of people who will try and take advantage of you. Especially as we promote music with our hearts and not our brains.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Its natural to make mistakes, If the band you are playing with are good and well rehearsed it will go unnoticed. If everyone panics and loses concentration, it will kill the song and probably the performance.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Loads of things happen on tour. Once we were nervous for a big gig, and as we were unloading ‘Lee’ ran with an amp and slipped on the icy pavement and wrapped himself around the gate post. It was just the laugh we needed to relax the nerves! We =ve had fights, break ups and arrests but that’s for another time.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
I only have a home studio for creating demo songs. And would love to upgrade everything at some point in the future.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Social media is a massive tool and you have to capitalize on that, even though it’s getting harder to get posts noticed with the new algorithms and unless it has been sponsored the posts very rarely get seen.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Steve Marriot I think I would have got on well with him. Ronnie lane, John Lennon was incredible. Any of the gigs by The Who especially Woodstock 69’.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
We have just released our ep ‘From Start To Perfection. That is having a massive response all over the county and world. The follow up EP is due to be started end of November, but we are in no rush to complete the release. We will release a few singles in 2020 and work on recording a new album I think. I think this will be even better. Working with Phil at Caretaker studios will be great and is very exciting.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Most probably have the hump, sitting around a fishing lake somewhere.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
The release of the follow up to ‘from start to perfection’ and loads of gigs. We have been offered so many gigs and looking forward to getting on stage with the rest of Maze
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
Dave at Ascape for being our producer on from start to perfection and anyone that has played a part in our success so far.
