Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
Grip: Heard about it through social media..felt you were a good avenue for getting strong music heard.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Grip: I’m a Florida boy, born and raised in Miami, via Hollywood, Ft. Lauderdale, Tallahassee. Lived all over Florida. Been a writer since the first time I met Dr. Dre.. he told me I had something.. been writin ever since. Now it’s my time.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Grip: I was in the studio wit Timbaland… and he said everybody wanna be rich, but why be rich if you ain’t got power.. So we decided to Grow.Rich.In.Power : GRIP!!
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Grip: Online music has changed the game..allows the young nigga wit talent to get heard..sharing music free make sense, because when the music good, people will pay for it anyway.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Grip: Only tip I have is make sure the music is from deep in your belly… Don’t make music just to get hot like the next artist. Tell your story.. the fame and money will find you.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Grip: Every artist has made a mistake during a show..its actually the only way to improve..best thing to do is keep performing like nothing is wrong. Audience only knows what you show them.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Grip: I’ve been on tour under other big artist..never my own tour..lookin forward to that.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Grip : My best songs come when I’m going thru hard times..I remember I once got locked up in dade county jail and ended up writing a dope song wit Timbaland called “God’s Favorite” that was partly inspired by that experience.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Grip: These days Soundcloud, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter is stronger than certain websites. As I’m starting to throw my music out, seems like the people are feeling it..follow me @fullyloadedgrip @kmurda305 @miamimmo …show support I’ll follow back.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Grip: Only 2 ways to spend a mill..my family my niggas come first!
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Grip: Best for me has been to get in people’s faces..get their input, feedback on the music. . Then word of mouth carries.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Grip: Would have love to perform with Sammy Davis Jr. in Vegas.. we have a lot in common, he was blind in one eye just like me..no struggle no progress.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Grip: If I wasn’t doin’ music I’d probably still be writing for somebody. My first love is writin’ music. The industry labeled me a rapper. I’m more than that.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Grip: First album I bought was Dr. Dre The Chronic ..all I could think was one day I wanna be in the studio Dre. Who woulda thought that dream would come to past
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Grip: Thing wit music its all about hurry up and wait. So u have to decide early what things can wait and what things can’t.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?Grip: Want people to know the name GRIP. That’s all!! We got so much music ready for the people. We got records from Dj Mustard, Dr. Dre, Buckwild, Timbaland, Juicy J, Bink, Mr. Lee, the list goes on.. All the relationships I’ve built as a writer can finally be heard in a way as never before. My stuff is undeniable. A worthy artist. Thats something to look foward to. #GRIP
