Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist? 

Torrey True: my story, well I’m from Pontiac,Michigan a small city 20-30 minutes from Detroit. Its not much  where i come from, its same day different shit type of life for us. I saw alot growing up i been broke,shot at the same stuff…. the death of a few childhood friends, influence my decision to make music and make it out of my city.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

Torrey True: How I came up with Torrey True, well Torrey my real name but I never thought people would listen to a youngin name Torrey. So I came up with numerous names, I been rapping since 13 I had over 20 names but when I got serious with the music I made a choice I told myself to stay True to me and no matter what name I came up with, being myself is what it came down to be so “Torrey True” is just me telling myself to stay real with myself no matter how I far I go

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

Torrey True: online sharing is big for the music industry now because anybody can get your music for free or by buying it so yeah I give free music only because people need to fall in love with something before they buy it you know that’s how any artist came up posting your music online for free

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Torrey True: only advice or tip is to never give up, stay hungry I been doing this since 16 professionally recording and just sign a indie deal at 21 so that hard work will pay off

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

Torrey True: honestly never a made mistake I didn’t mean to make basically im saying if you fuck up keep going they gone feel the real lol

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

Torrey True: actually im going on my first tour this fall with MITSMG my big homie B.Right just drop and amazing LP called “Name For Myself” its on ITunes check it out, but he starting a NameForMyselfTour and im proud to say I’m apart of it

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process? 

Torrey True: I gather my songwriting inspiration from my life. I either write about now or my past depending on what type of feel I get on the beat. I’m a very honest artist so my writing process is not much, its just 2 blunts and keeping it real that’s all to it

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing? 

Torrey True: Hustling or either Dead or in Jail real talk nothing more nothing less

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head? 

Torrey True: first album I bought hmmm lol it was Lil Wayne carter 3 that was my favorite album growing up hands down I bought it cause one day I wanted someone to buy my album

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life? 

Torrey True: I pray and keep doing what I gotta do, no negative people no unnecessary drama, no nothing just pray and keep grinding

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016? 

Torrey True: well I got my first label produce EP dropping December release date yet to be revealed but its coming and more tours and just excitement I’m working with B.Right and the MITSMG family we just got big dreams that’s going to lead to BIG MOVES
