Exposed Vocals Interviews Slim GoHamm
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist? Â
Slim GoHamm: Well im a North Carolina Native of course. #TarHeelNation. But i grew up in and learned alot between two cities. Oxford and Henderson, NC. I grew up watching my pops rap and record in this guys basement in oxford, nc. And also my brother had this rap group outta oxford as well. So i guess it was kinda in my blood. But when my moms passed away in 2005, at that point i took everything i put on paper or my phone serious.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Slim GoHamm: I got the name from my homies and people I hang around. I was always a slim figure guy and when i let people hear my music when i first started years ago, all i would hear is ” Damn bruh u went ham”. So i decided to roll with Slim GoHamm. Add another M jus to be different.. So the ones who listened to me and kept telling me dont give up was my inspiration.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Slim GoHamm: Online music is cool as long as its sites around like itunes where the artist can still make money independently. The world wide web is the biggest promo package itself. And i dont mind giving away free music only because i got enough in my archives to pass out like here, take that and enjoy. Just buy my album when its up for grabs.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Slim GoHamm: The biggest tip of all is invest in yourself. If nobody see you investing in yourself then nobody is gone take you serious. And dont let nobody discourage you. It is alot of people ouchea who wanna be artist, but you gots to grind, you gotta be willing to step outside your comfort zone sometimes and talk about things that matter. Being a one lane artist wont get you far and prolly not even noticed.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Slim GoHamm: The second show i ever did was in Raleigh, NC at Club LeNiche. And i was so twisted i forgot my whole verse. Lls. But i had to kinda laugh at myself, told the DJ to switch that joint and kept it moving.

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process? Â
Slim GoHamm:I look back at my life and the people i grew up with, and use that as my platform to write what i write. If im out eating or some or kicking it da homies and idea will hit me and I’ll pull out my phone and go to work. I try to write down every idea possible. Lol. I was with my lady and she got mad cause we handling bness and i love music so much, I’ll take a timeout to write this verse out. Lls. I’ll get mad if i can’t write it down or if I forget..lls.. Slim GoHamm: I would spend a whole year locked in the studio with my kids nearby to work on my albums. Prolly take the kids to Disneyland. Buy my moms a bigger head stone for her grave. Start my own business and have my sister run it. And I’d setup my own tour. Get my kids college tuition paid up and invest the rest in gold. I be watching the stock markets on them gild prices.lls

Im currently recording using protools, and honestly I dont know which one, but my homie Tre Hitz mixing skills is off the chain. I used to record on Sonar and wit him mixing my tracks down sounded better than some of yall who record on protools. But we had to upgrade to protools..lls

Slim GoHamm: I promte myself any way possible. Self promotion is always best but it helps with other avenues as well. I use twitter, Facebook, and other social media site where i can post my links. I used to get deleted in the past cause i would post my links on random peoples wall on fb and all..lls…that was kray and mad funny. Same people want a free mixtape now..lls
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?Â

Only kus we got the same last name and i feel where he be coming from with his music. Id also have Lil Wayne kus i like his energy and cartoonish punch lines. Aliyah kus i love to write and not just trap music. Her voice was heavenly. 21 Savage kus he killed that joint wit future, “X Bit#h, and end it wit Future Hendrix!!! Lls..
