My name is Dewayne Nelson also known as PhligMagitc. I was born in Kansas City Missouri on the 25th of May 1991. I discovered my passion for music at the age of 8. Growing up i was surrounded by brothers who did music, and they became my biggest influences.At the age of 10 i did my frist preformance at my school talent show, and won first place. Then at 14 i released my first underground Mixtape with my brothers named ‘Hustlers Discount’. we sold 2,000 copies for one dollar each. when i turned 18 i began doing music with some friends, and we started preforming at open mic shows every Wednesday and every weekend. At 21 i released another underground Mixtape named ‘Angry Birds’, and met a manager named Minxy the owner of JMP Management. Working with Minxy she provided me multiple shows such as: Ali Baba’s Hookah Lounge, Club Rain, Club Delusionz, Truck and Bike Show, and Kansas City Kat walk.I open up for the local artist Mon-Eg.I did so many shows that people start recognizing who i am as an artist I just Release a new mixtape called Roman Noodles & Hot Sauce thats online right now on datpiff,com .
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Well let’s see I’m from Kansas city mo You dig Mmm I been around music all my life like my 3 brothers was rappers so I wanna be apart of it so I play with a keyboard so my big brother called me PhligMagtic
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Well PhligMagtic that’s my name but my big brother Markus gave me that name 1 night I was hanging in the studio and my brother look in the dictionary and saw that word and said it fits me Phlegmatic is the real way how its spelled lol and its stand for a type of attitude emotion
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
I think sharing music online is great…and I share music online all the time like right my mixtape is online and its free
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
well like open mic shows are OK but the crowd is mostly other artists what I do is just network call clubs and venues and book your own shows
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Lol yeah I have 1 time I was performing at this club and as I was doing my thang the mic die on me lol I got mad immediately but my manager was like keep going so I start lip singing and no one never knew
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
I have tour yet but my first tour will be in 2017 called the home town tour
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?Â
Well before I write a song I usually listen to music first for a little bit and then I fine a beat I mostly grab a situation I been through so I note down ideas first and pick which is better
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
I’m working my music website right now but I’m just on SoundCloud and YouTube right now
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Yes I do have some like on my old MySpace me and my friends all ourselves Dem Boyz back in 2007 I was like 16 we remix T.I whatever you like song lol it was horrible but our school and family loved it
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Wow half million well I take care of my family pay my offerings to God maybe buy a nice car you know and invest the rest in my music p.s go to Hawaii
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Oh yes I just finished my mixtape called Roman noodles and hot sauce thats on datpiff right now http://www.datpiff.com/
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you? Well no promotion is free so I usually use Facebook and Twitter pay them to help target an audience maybe a few music blogs that can help too but I still hit the streets and handout CDs tho
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Lol it will be a world tour and a U.S.A tour and the artist will be Tech N9ne, T.I,Wiz Khalifa and Stevie Stone…I me Tech N9ne and Stevie Stone all from the same place and I’m a really big fan of strange music my dream is been signed to strange music. T.I is my favorite artist and Wiz khalifa as well but Tech N9ne is an person I really look up too
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Yeah I’m working on a CD right now called Angry birds and my a tour as well
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
well Music kept me out the streets but I don’t know maybe Playing Football or the army because the streets I was in I needed a way out I wasn’t on a good path of life
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
yeah I remember it was T.I Trap Music…when I got that album I was thinking like yes he made this CD just for me lol and when I listen to it all I could think of dam I wish I can rap like that
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
well its easy because my wife she support me a lot so she give me the space to do music and I have 4kids they play in my studio as I write and working a job I pick days that’s all about music that’s how I get stuff done
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
Well a dope mixtape a few music videos I got a group mixtape coming well just a lot of visual because I’m doing shows all next year
