Exposed Vocals Interviews Null Paradox
Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
You sent us a nice tweet asking to interview us!
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
The artists in Null Paradox are from across the world with our performance home base in Detroit. We have musicians, actors, circus performers, and visual artists as part of our Interactive Rock Opera. All of us became artists because we have a story to share with you.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
“Null Paradox” means “the never ending question.” We thought it was a good description of what we’re writing about: Making the choice between difficult decisions. In our case: The decision between Love and Destiny.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
We give away some of our music to members of our Null Paradox Community as our way of saying “thank you” for being a member. www.NullParadoxCommunity.com
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
The best thing we’ve ever done, and continue to do, is to reach out to people one-on-one in as many cities and towns as we can. Everyone has a great story to tell and we love learning about the people who we meet.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
We’ve all done it. After a mistake we carry on and try to learn from it so our next mistake will be something new!
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
We’re setting up our 2015 tour which starts on May 16 in metro Detroit. Since our shows are interactive with our audiences, our after-party is really just a crazy continuation of our show. Tickets are available at www.NullParadox.com
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
We start by writing one of our steampunk fiction books. As we write, the story in our books inspire lyrics and music. And by accident, we’ve found that the stories we tell in our songs inspire chapters in our books.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
www.NullParadox.com is our main website.
Although our first CD is sold-out, songs from it are available on iTunes, GooglePlay, Amazon, the usual places.
Our main platform for sharing our music is through our Null Paradox Community. www.NullParadoxCommunity.com
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
We love all music, so we’re not really embarrassed by anything on our phones.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
We’d spend that time and money on adding some of the really crazy ideas we have to our live show. We’d also continue doing what we do now: writing more books and music. And we’d make more donations through our Null Paradox Foundation. www.NullParadoxFoundation.org
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
We record scratch tracks using Sonar software, two Roland Studio Captures, and a bunch of Shure microphones. Monitors for mixing are JBL4410s and Yamaha HS8s. Once we think the arrangements are working then we head into the studio. There’s nothing like getting a fresh set of ears to listen to our songs, the arrangements, tones, everything really. For our first album, “Gertrude & Grace” we recorded at Peter Gabriel’s studio (Real World Studios) in England. Actually, the HS8 speakers were an upgrade last year because it’s one of the speakers that we used at Real World to mix our album.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Traveling to as many cities and towns as we can to meet people on the streets and playing unplugged versions of our songs in independently owned businesses through our Null Paradox Cranks program. www.NullParadoxCranks.com
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
At the O2 arena in London with Nine Inch Nails.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
We’re recording our next album, writing our next book, and getting ready to start our 2015 tour on May 16!
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Really can’t imagine doing anything else.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
An older friend had a copy of a Deep Purple album and a Parliament Funkadelic album. That’s all it took. It was amazing!
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
During 2014 we were fortunate to meet a good family of people who volunteer to help us with the juggling.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2015?
Our interactive rock opera tour! You’re invited to check us out at www.NullParadox.com
