Exposed Vocals Interviews LeE-bOy
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
LeE-bOy: I grew up in Harare Zimbabwe, in a suburb called Eastlea which is very close to a number of conference centres so I could hear music playing when I was at home. My mother used to play a lot of music during my childhood , the likes of the beetles, backstreet boys and Mario. So I’d sing in the background while the music is playing , I think that was when I was uh 7 years. But I actually took it seriously when I got to the 8th grade when I did my first song called Hoodboi when I was on Lil Wayne.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
LeE-bOy: Hahaha, the name LeE-bOy actually comes from my first name which is Léroy , which means ‘the king’ in french. At first I was called Lil 60 by one of my childhood friends , not knowing where the name came from I dropped it and called my self LeE-bOy. I thought it was better for my name to be closely related to my real name cause i felt that it would give my fans the full package, the real me.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
LeE-bOy: Okay, firstly artists work very hard to create their sound even though it’s for the love of music they still have to make something out if it. So to answer your question I’m okay with online streaming, but I do not give away my music for free. Haha.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
LeE-bOy: This generation is really blessed cause of the internet , you can upload your music on SoundCloud, Spotify and all those other websites. The major tips are good advertising and be original and honest at all times. Of course you won’t just get to the top at once , it takes time.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
LeE-bOy: Hahaha, yeah I do almost all the time actually, but when I make a mistake I always act as if that was part of the show, at one point i was doing an acoustic version of my song Midnight Blue , I forgot the lyrics to the chorus and I changed them , the audience was shocked but they were still turnt up.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
LeE-bOy: Actually , I haven’t been on tour , my first tour might be sometime in November with guest artists like NKay and my dj KaydEe .
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
LeE-bOy: I listen to the beat first, and I freestyle to it till I get a unic sound. After that I record my freestyle then start adding some taste to it, and yes I don’t pen and paper.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
