Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
K.Artise: You guys Dm me on Twitter and I saw an opportunity for some exposure and that’s how it played out really.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
K.Artise: My name is Khari Brown.I’m from Ann Arbor MI born and raised. I’m 17 years old.I am a Hip-Hop artist.What made me want to become an artist was my friends rapping and putting out songs on soundcloud.It just motivated me and made me want to rap.My friends that rapped were DreWaun and Casmir. Also,I’m apart of a group called FlowLow and these two were creators of the group.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
K.Artise: My name came from me, my uncle, and my auntie.The first time I decided I wanted to record we just started brainstorming about my name.Originally I was just gonna use my given name but they thought it was to plain.So, we decided to use my first name initial and my middle name.Also,can’t forget my mom because she was the one who gave me my middle name.She said it came to her in a dream.Overall that’s how K.Artise was created
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
K.Artise: At this time and moment I think online music sharing is good and it’s whats needed for the views and everything.Also,I do give my music away for free.You can find some of it on soundcloud.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
K.Artise:Just keep grinding,working and everything should fall into place. As long as you work for it.You have to give to receive .Give work to receive progress.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
K.Artise:To be honest I haven’t performed yet but I do plan to.Its one of things on my to-do list.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
K.Artise: Being that I just started rapping,I think that touring will come same where down the line.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
K.Artise: Some times I look on Twitter or Instagram to get some inspiration.And the first line just jump starts everything else.It helps the process of getting the next line and the next line and so on.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
K.Artise: I actually don’t and that’s a great idea to make one.I’m going to get on that for real.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
K.Artise: None of the songs on my phone is embarrassing to me.I’m not going to download a song if I’m feeling it.Though most music that’s coming out today I enjoy.From artist like Drake,Kendrick Lamar,J.Cole ,Big Sean, and Rae Sremmurd.As well as artist like Chris Brown,August Alsina, and Jeremih.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
K.Artise: If we’re talking about a year off of rap then I would enjoy it with my family.I’m saving some for college most definitely.But yes I would split it with the family once I was done helping myself.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
K.Artise:I truthfully don’t have my own studio but I know people that do.People like Zay Hitz.That was actually the spot where I recorded my first song ‘Picture Me’ featuring Zay.I do plan own upgrading my own studio though.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
K.Artise: Twitter is one of the best ways I promote my music.As well as using Instagram to promote and get as many views as possible.But to answer your other question,Twitter works best for me.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
K.Artise: If I could perform anywhere it would probably have to be in Toronto.And I would perform with Drake.Drake is one of the greatest of our time.And to perform with him would be amazing.Pretty sure most artist want to perform with Drake.He is just so gifted when it comes to rapping.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
K.Artise: I’m really focused on working on my mixtape called ‘Worth The Wait’.It’s difficult at a certain having to juggle more than one thing.As well as school but when something that you love happens you roll with it.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
K.Artise: If I wasn’t making music ,I would probably try and find ways to get wealthy.I did want to be an inventor but nothing really came to mind at that time.I also want to go into making clothing.I have some designs that I think would go far and people would like to have.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
K.Artise: The first album that I bought was Chris Browns ‘Exclusive’ album.His just got me hype when I listened to it back then.Don’t get me wrong though.Chris Brown still makes hit records like he use to.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
K.Artise: You have to find a way to balance everything.If you love to do something,you find a way to make time for it.No matter what else you have to do.I do attend school but I find time for it.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2015?
K.Artise: They should be anticipating the new music I put out throughout this year.I feel like they’ll be able to feel what I bring to the table.I do hope that they enjoy everything that I put out.
