Exposed Vocals Interviews Joo Platta
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story.
Where did you grow up? What made
you decide to become an artist?
Joo Platta: Firstly I’d like to thank you for the opportunity for the interview. Then to take the question, I grew up at a place called Maphalaleni in Swaziland. As a kid I’d watch a lot of music videos on TV and I think that’s what got me interested in doing music. I just loved the creativity and the life bro.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up
with that name? What was your
inspiration behind it?
Joo Platta: Hehehe… Well, getting the name was kinda trippy coz I had had some weed so as I was freestyling with my Cuz I happened to say “It ain’t no n’gg doing well like Joo Platta// I guess y’all finna see when we get shout outs from Kendrick Lamar//”. And that was it.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think
about online music sharing? Do you
ever give your music away for free?
Why?
Joo Platta: I think online music sharing is the future man. Everyone is on the net right now so you can’t be telling me you vy to radio stations to submit your music and also beg them to announce that you dropped something. Just post your music online and you’ll see people listening to it if they like it. I’m at a stage of growing as a brand so I do give out music for free. This is a strategy to raise awareness of my work and brand because I still have less a fan base.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a
start-up once, can you give any smaller
or local bands or artists looking to get
gigs and airplay some tips?
Joo Platta: Bro… Try as much as you can to communicate with these people called event organisers. Get your music to them and make sure they like it.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make
mistakes during performances? How do
you handle that?
Joo Platta: So far there hasn’t been any mistake I made in stage.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything
interesting happen on tour that you
think our readers would enjoy hearing
about?
Joo Platta: I haven’t started tour for myself but I’d vy check out a homie when he/she has a tour. Tours are a good way to see how your fans love you thou…
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually
gather songwriting inspiration? What
is your usual songwriting process?
Joo Platta: Immediately when I receive a beat to work on, I firstly listen to it over and over so I can think of a better mood for it. Once I get the mood/concept I then try to recall or relate that with something that has happened in my life, regarding that specific concept. Afterwards I start scripting. I don’t like rushing the craft because I’m trynna make sure I don’t leave anything out since I wrote on a pressure of trying to finish real quick. I take a few days writing a song.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band
website? What online platforms do you
use to share your music?
Joo Platta: Unfortunately I don’t have that for now. And since I’m still giving out free music I normally upload my music atwww.datafilehost.com
Exposed Vocals: What are some really
embarrassing songs that we might find
on your mp3 player?
Joo Platta: Lol I don’t know of any.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half
a million dollars and a year off, what
would you do? How would you spend
it?
Joo Platta: Well I’d buy some equipment for a home studio. Get a new wardrobe (new clothes & kicks). I’d stash the rest at my bank account for further usage as I live and have daily needs.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio
upgrades? What are you working with
now?
Joo Platta: The reason I am saying I’d get a perfect setup for my home studio is the very reason that I’d love to work at the comfort of my home. For now I am signed by an independent label named Serenity Ent. It has the basic studio requirements.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways
to promote your music? What works
best for you?
Joo Platta: I use all my media platforms to do that. I use my Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to share it with my fans.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform
anywhere and with any artists (Dead or
Alive) where and who would it be with?
Why?
Joo Platta: Damn! I’d love to perform in New York and open for Kendrick Lamar on that very same event/show.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any
new upcoming projects that you want
to talk about?
Joo Platta: I am working on an EP and its at its early stages so its not safe to say when can it be ready but I think by mid year next year it would have dropped. Its my first studio project and I’m very excited about it so yah… People should wait for it.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making
music, what would you be doing?
Joo Platta: Running a great label. I love seeing people make good music at my watch.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember
buying your first album? Who was it?
What was going through your head?
Joo Platta: When I purchased my first album I was so excited because I was to get it from the artist himself. I was a fan of him and his crew. It was a project from Rapkid. And, unfortunately it was a mixtape but still it was being sold. What was in my mind was that one day I’ll drop my own project and that people will also buy it.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the
rest of your responsibilities while trying
to stay ahead in your music life?
Joo Platta: I find that a bit hard coz I gotta work on my craft and I also have to keep up with my responsibilities. Its really hard but I try to balance both.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look
forward to in the next year or so?
Joo Platta: This year only I think my fans should look out for 3 singles which will drop this summer alone. Then hopefully next year I drop the EP.
