Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
I was at home searching for music on Twitter and Exposed Vocals followed me. I was interested because I saw a lot of articles on its profile and followed back.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
My name is Fabrizio Piazza, I have 19 years old. I’m from San Nicolás, Buenos Aires, Argentina, but I’m living in Rosario, Santa Fe because of my studies.
When I was a child, my cousin taught me to play the guitar and influenced me with a lot of music. I wasn’t really passional about it, but then I started to feel very depressed and music was the new way for me.
Â
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Well, I was in a few bands before Freight and I’ve learned a lot from them. Then I thought I needed to go on with my projects but it was so difficult that I had to quit and form a new band. I met these guys, they really wanted to rock so we formed Freight. We needed a name and no one was available but when I started listening to Judas Priest I read their biography and saw the name. It was available and we felt identified a lot… so we took it.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
I think it’s OK. Everyone must have the rights to do that if they have their own music. Also, for example, we couldn’t release on a physical format our album… online music sharing helped me out to upload and share my music. It’s cool, you know? We can have critics from a lot of people that really like listening to music and based on those critics we can progress. Yes, I gave my music away because of that, I think it’s a very good benefit.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Well, I can tell you to be compromised on your projects and to move on every day with your instrument, your music, your style, your band and your play. Never stop working on that and every time you have the possibility to play, you take it. Go out and look for places! I can tell you that because that’s what I do, but I’m a beginner.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Â
Hahahaha yes, I make a lot of mistakes. Handle it? I don’t think I can handle it; I just go on because I don’t want to think about my play, I wanna feel it, you know?
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Inspiration is everywhere… she has no time, no place, no sleep, no study, and no drugs… awesome. Most of the times I’ve written songs, I write the music first and then the lyrics . However, I have also written the lyrics first and then the music, but modifying the first ones.
I really like to warm up playing scales and then songs, but there’s a moment in when you don’t have any song to play because you’ve spent five hours playing and you played all songs you know. That’s when you take a break… then you are chatting with a friend and you start playing the guitar waiting for a message… a riff comes up from your fingers and when you remember the message you were waiting for has been received six hours ago. Whatever, you can be talking on the phone with the guitar on your knees and a complete song can appear from you.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
We have a Facebook Page: freightmetal ( https://www.facebook.com/freightmetal/ ).
Our songs can be found in Souncloud ( https://soundcloud.com/freight-metal ) or we uploaded the album in YouTube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONAVrRErFLM ).
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Â
A HALF MILLION DOLLARS?! Hahahaha I don’t really know what I would do. I’d need a lot of time to think about it… I can try. I would buy a big bus for big tours with friends and bands, the necessary equipment (baffles, consoles, powers, microphones, lights, cameras, etc.) to make a good show for the fans, publicity… I would buy a Hartke amp, two Marshall amps, a Tama drums with Paiste and Zildjian cymbals, three bass-guitars, six guitars… and if a few dollars remains, I would use them to record our albums.
To sum up, I would spend them on the band, it’s my life.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Nothing really planned. It was really difficult for us to finish this album, we don’t have such a lot of money and time to record new albums.
I’m working in a new genre of music, actually I finished it but I can’t play it so well because it’s too fast! Haha I really like speed and this style is like when you take a song and accelerate it with a program or something, it’s very funny! I finished the songs, the instrumental part, and the lyrics, but I want them in English so I don’t have anything. This new genre is called blues-thrash.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
As you can see, the most of the answers have Internet on his back. We use Facebook and send invitations to our events, but I think it is better to put up posters on the city where you are going to play and near the place.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
What a great interview! I would like to play at the Estadio De Escorpiao – Estadio Maracaná (Brasil) with Dave Mustaine on lead guitar, Eddie Van Halen on the other lead guitar, Lars Ulrich on the drums, Lemmy Kilmister on bass-guitar, Ozzy Osbourne on vocals and me on the rhythm guitar.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
No man, I don’t know what’s going to happen but we have a lot of songs to practice. We are looking forward to play them.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
I would be studying or hanging out with friends.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Yes! I was 11 years old and we went to Villa Gesell with my family. There we went to a public scenario on the street and saw a band called “The Danger Fourâ€. They were making covers, “The Beatles†covers. Music wasn’t really a passion for me but there I saw people singing that songs… I can remember when they played “Hey Judeâ€, and then my life changed forever. So, when we got back to San Nicolás, I searched for music on the Internet and started listening to The Beatles. Sincerely, I bought my first album a few years after that, when I was 13, it was “Blanco y Negro†from “Airbagâ€â€¦ now I don’t like that music but I think it influenced me. Fuck.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
It’s not easy but not impossible.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
We’re trying to play new songs. It’s difficult because of the time and the distance, but as I said before… it can be difficult but it’s possible. Hope is what keep us alive, isn’t it?
