Exposed Vocals Interviews Frankenblazer
Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
Frankenblazer: We contacted you through Twitter and wanted to expose our band to a new audience.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Frankenblazer: We’re a band out of Amityville, Long Island, NY. Our lead singer/rhythm guitar player, bassist, and drummer met while attending high school, where interestingly enough our lead guitarist lived across the street but did not attend. While in college we jammed, practiced, and genereally sucked together until we started clicking, practice makes perfect. We decided we did not want to have real lives or jobs so we keep the dream alive.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Frankenblazer: We used to practice at a house in On the corner of Lake Ave in St. James. During the heaviest blizzard of the season our house and our drive was snowed up to the windows. There was no food. There was no power. There was no cigarettes or beer. We were doomed. Just when things seemed darkest a bright light appeared in our driveway. We heard the ghastly roar of a diesel engine. We realized the snow had been moved and we could make our way to 7-11 for cigarettes and beer and warmth. We went outside to see who had helped us and there it was; a matte gray truck with a snow plow on it and “Frankenblazer” stenciled on the side of it. We knocked on the window to thank the driver and when the window opened we realized… there was no driver. Before we could process what happened “Frankenblazer” sped off. We owe the that haunted snow plow our lives. We pay tribute to Frankenblazer with our band.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Frankenblazer: We have never charged for it, get ‘em while they’re hot!
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Frankenblazer: Bars are always hosting Open-mics. Find out when and where and go play. Now.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Frankenblazer: We try to continue the song and tighten up, you can’t just stop playing because someone made a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Frankenblazer: Right now we play where anyone will let us but we plan on touring.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Frankenblazer: We gather in a garage or basement and perform a ritual sacrifice so that our dark lord Satan will grant us inspiration. But seriously we do our thing by just jamming and throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. It also helps that we’ve been playing together for a few years now. As with any other artis we gain inspiration through our favorite bands and try to pick from those bands and genres that we love and try to put our spin on it.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Frankenblazer: We mainly do our work through soundlcoud, twitter and facebook. We’re looking at anything we can honestly, just keeping the nose to the grindstone.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Frankenblazer: Our bass player is a HUGE Smashmouth guy, loves ‘em
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Frankenblazer: A fat van for touring and beer. And gasoline. And matches.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Frankenblazer: McGyver couldn’t put a better rig together.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Frankenblazer: Google helps. Facebook too, twitter, anything on the internet
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Frankenblazer: I think being from New York and missing it in its prime, and sadly now all together, I think we would love to have played a CBGBs and honestly give us any of the punk greats that have rocked that place and we would love to embarrass ourselves trying to keep up.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Frankenblazer: We just keep moving forward and never stop. This music is a huge part of our lives and we don’t know what to do with ourselves otherwise. We’re always writing, and are actually writing and recording a couple songs for our soundcloud and EP as we are doing this interview. If we have time to record, we take it, especially with “real” jobs.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Frankenblazer: We’d be bored at work, bored in general.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Frankenblazer: I was always exposed to some great music from a young age, I grew up on the Grateful Dead and The Rolling Stones, but me personally, I believe my first album was ACDC’s High Voltage, that album plus Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater made up a lot of my elementary school years.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Frankenblazer: “Fumble” would be a more appropriate word.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2015?
Frankenblazer: A Lot from Frankenblazer, some new music videos, and more importantly some videos and merch so you can see our beautiful faces, ideas, and designs. Keep an eye on Frankenblazer.
