Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
DMVSDJ: I grew up in manassas a small city in VA. I decided I wanted to become an artist after years of watching my brother ( PT) make music. Just how he could get a point across in 16 bars was amazing. The day came where i rapped for him and he told me i can be something
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
DMVSDJ: My name is pretty simple im from the DMV and my nickname has always been dj so i just put on for where im from and added my nickname dj
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
DMVSDJ: Online sharing has changed music so much you use to have to husle to get your music heard now you can just post a song on soundcloud and blow up. I always give my music out for free cause im trying to reach as many fans as I can
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
DMVSDJ: money talks it takes money to make money
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
DMVSDJ: Ive never messed up while preforming but if i ever do i will just keep going you cant let someing like a slip up stop the show the show must go on
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
DMVSDJ: ive bever toured but im hoping i will with a dope ass artist
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
DMVSDJ: I gather my inspiation from the new music thats good or just being in a creative mind set. If i cant picture a music video to what im writing I wont follow through with the song
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
DMVSDJ: I use soundcloud to promote my music
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
DMVSDJ: i dont really have any embarrasing songs maybe fireflies by owl city but that song is crazy good i wouldn’t be embarrassed if you came acrossed it
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
DMVSDJ: yeah if i had half a mill i would spend alot of it on music equipment and trap myself in the studio the rest would be given to my family to hold them for awhile
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
DMVSDJ: Im working off of a laptop and usb mic and fl studios. Im really hoping I can come crossed a good studio to start recording at
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
DMVSDJ: I just go to people directly and let them know i make music and give them the link and i also have cards with my social media and music info that i hand out
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
DMVSDJ: I would preform with my brother PT he recently passed and i would want nothing more then to perform with him in front of a sold out Stadium at Madison Square Garden
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
DMVSDJ: Im looking to drop a couple tapes this year so keep your eyes on me
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
DMVSDJ: I couldnt see myself doing anything else music has always been the goal
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
DMVSDJ: the first album my had ever purchased was Eminem’s curtain calls but it wasnt when it dropped it was in a cd store tucked away. When I seen the album i had a flashback to when i would replay stan and mocking bird by far my favorite songs
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
DMVSDJ: I make sure my schedule never gets backed up and that I will always have time for music
