Exposed Vocals Interviews Brittany Franklin
Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
Brittany: Exposed vocals actually found me on Twitter & shot me a message… I looked into it & I felt they like really do the best the can to help the artists.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Brittany: I grew up in Pasadena, CA… Not really wanting to sing, but to draw. I knew I could sing but I always wanted to do it on a background/choir level, so I stayed behind the scenes up until about a year & a half ago when I started realizing that this is actually what I’m called to do. Started joining worship teams, getting inspiration/dreams of new music, and the rest is history.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Brittany: It’s my government name. Lol 😉
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Brittany: I’m not opposed to giving away music for free; I think it depends on the artist. Since I’m just starting up & I’m putting out positive/empowering music, I’m definitely giving away my music for free… For now.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Brittany: Honestly, I’m just starting up myself… If anyone can give ME some tips, that would help.. Lol
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Brittany: Always pushing through & remembering that for me, it’s not about performing for the crowd but having an audience of one, which is Christ. Telling myself He must increase & I must decrease.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Brittany: Nope… Not yet at least.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Brittany: I usually get songs in dreams or when I’m in a place of rest/chill mode. I’ll record the melody & track it, then the lyrics seem to almost come automatically.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Brittany: The website is in the works, but for now I use social media.
Facebook: www.facebook.com/brittis2nd
Twitter/Instagram: @brittis2nd
Soundcloud: www.soundcloud.com/brittis2nd
Reverbnation: www.reverbnation.com/brittis2nd
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Brittany: Umm… I may or may not have the entire Michael Buble Christmas album on my player. Judge not. Haha.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Brittany: I’d first of all pay off all debt & give @ church… Then absolutely take as much time as I need to finish up the EP or record a new project in a new home with an amazing home studio.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Brittany: Got a set up right now at home & I’m using Studio One Presonus for vocals & production.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Brittany: I use social media… Oddly enough Instagram seems to get me the most feedback with the short video/photo clips, but I’m working on getting results from other outlets.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Brittany: Pharell… Tori Kelly… Basically any artists who create positive music with meaningful lyrics. Artists like that, to me, are humble and are truly using the God-given to make music with a good message.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Brittany: Got an EP coming out called “Identity” on June 16th of this year!
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Brittany: I’d probably be out of my mind somewhere on the streets, or dead. Honestly I didn’t realize how much meaning my life had until I started getting serious about music.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Brittany: Brandy’s first self-titled album. Won’t ever forget that… That album still goes.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Brittany: Luckily I’m going to school for music, and when I’m not recording or in school I’m singing somewhere else so it all falls into place in order for me to stay focused.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2015?
Brittany: The “Identity” EP.. And there may or may not be some new projects outside of that in the making.. Gotta stay tuned!
