Exposed Vocals Interviews Ben Lee
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Benjamine Lee: I grew up in Richmond California, My parents were always into music. My dad is the head musician for my church and my mom is a choir singer, so i wanted to do music for a living but i didn’t want to follow their footsteps.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Ben: I used my real name for my stage name. Before i was known as “KayzTheKid” but over time i realized that i’m not a kid anymore. . if i want people to remember me for my music then they will remember me for me, not for a stage name.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Ben: I think online music sharing is a good way to build connections and a fan base. Yes i give my music away for free because i see no point in charging fans that just want to share my music with others. . Maybe one day when i’m known a little more, then i’ll start charging.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Ben: My advice will be . . keep pushing, keep creating, and keep hustling . .
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Ben: i haven’t had the chance to perform on stage yet but hopefully one day!
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Ben: One day!
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Ben: I usually listen to other artist to gather inspiration. My usual songwriting process is to sit in my room for hours, listening to beats that i produced on my own. If something clicks with a beat and i start feeling the vibe. I will write something relating to how i’m feeling at that moment.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Ben: I usually share my music on Soundcloud, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Ben: none, i carefully pick which song to download onto my phone.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Ben: Â I will spend the money on my family, friends, and on myself.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Ben: Right now i am working with a Audio technica AT2020, as for recording software i am currently working with Mixcraft 7 pro.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Ben: Sharing my music with friends on all of my social medias. What works for me is promoting my music on Twitter.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Ben: In my own city with G-Eazy. Reason why is because we’re both from the bay area and we came up with nothing but the passion and dream to become something legendary.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Ben: At the moment i am producing and recording 2 new songs, hoping to release them sometime before Halloween.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Ben: I would probably be working in a office doing a simple 9 – 5 for the rest of my life.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Ben: My first album that i purchased was  futuristic – The rise. During that time i recently found out about Futuristic and i really liked his music.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Ben: I take care of everything that’s important to me first, like work and school. Then at night i spend a few hours working on music and promoting myself on the way.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Ben: More music, videos, hopefully performances, and Collaborations.
