Exposed Vocals Interviews Aaroon Yang
Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
Aaroon Yang: Exposed vocals followed me on Twitter and I followed back. I haven’t signed up yet but I should and I will because of how they are willing to reach out to Musicians and I like reading other peoples stories/interviews.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Aaroon Yang: I grew up most of my life in the suburbs of Minnesota and there’s not much to do but go to the park and sit around all day. I became a music artist because I want to have a voice and say in the world and because I want to have fun like my favorite bands. Also because i just enjoy it.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Aaroon yang: Well I came up with Hyperspree in eighth grade for my YouTube channel , when my friends used to always say I was too hyper and the spree part came because I used to love Halo (Games) and the announcer would say “killing spree’. So since I had a small following already on my channel I decided to use that channel for my music but now I’m changing it back to my real name.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Aaroon Yang: I like it, it gets people’s music out there but I wish it was still like the early 90’s because even though its easier now to expose your music, the competition has got higher and so I feel it’s even harder to break through now days. I’m just starting so I’m giving my music away for free because it will help expose my music easier, and maybe I’ll give out my music for free forever. I think now days music should be free and if people want to pay for it to support you it’s up to them because a lot of people are going to download your music illegally anyways. You should make your money through merchandising, live shows and whatever you think of. Tom Delonge said something like this in one of his interview and I really agree with him.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Aaroon Yang: Sure, I mean I’d have to say network with people, collaborate. If you help other people or bands in the long run it come back to help you out and along the way and you’ll share some fans with them and get recommended for gigs. Connection is key I feel.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Aaroon Yang: I have not performed…YET.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Aaroon Yang: Not Yet. I have not tour…I wish to in the future though, but i kinda want to start a band first.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Aaroon Yang: Most of my inspiration comes from seeing people around me hurt because of something that I’ve been hurt by or know I could be hurt by. So my songs are usually 30% for them but I never tell them, But honestly it comes from anywhere mostly when I am just playing my guitar for fun or on FL stodio and come up with something cool. Lyrically it comes from anywhere. I like writing joking “immature” songs to serious songs.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Aaroon Yang: I’m at the point where I want one but still trying to find someone to make one for me. Sound cloud, Facebook and twitter mostly but I’m still expanding my reach.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Aaroon Yang: Nothing really, maybe joke songs by blink182 like f*** a dog and bl*w job song, but even that I’m not embarrassed even though I know people will be questioning it…but I I’d say “Do what you like”.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Aaroon Yang: I’d use that money to buy better equipment, some lessons on punk music (hopefully from Mark Hoppus) and marketing. The rest would go towards having fun at concerts and helping the less fortunate.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Aaroon Yang: Currently I am just working with a Fender Stratocaster with a Frontman amp and a Fender P bass with a rumble amp and FL studio . I do have plans to upgrade my guitar and the amp firstly because I want a different and more diverse sound. Then maybe a real drum set and last but not least a better Software.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Aaroon Yang: Building hype by releasing teasers, pics, songs and so on. Also collaborating with people and getting their friends and family to become potential fans.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Aaroon Yang: That is a tough one, But Tom Delonge would be my choice just because he was the reason I really got into guitar and he seems really funny and I want to ask him some things. I would perform in Cali were punk is appreciated most.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Aaroon Yang: Yes after my practice Ep I’m going to work on a full album that’s going to be more fast paced but at the same time be whatever it turns out to be. Also more collaborating with people.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Aaroon Yang: Everyday things like school, park, sleep, video games but as a career choice probably game designing or directing movies.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Aaroon Yang: Not really, but I’m going to buy more to support some of my favorite artist.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Aaroon Yang: I find time to make music by trying to stay out of being responsible for things but when I have to have a responsibility for something then I push out the fun activities to another day for my music. Like if I have to study for a test and missed out on my music, I will spend my week end working on music instead of going out.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2015?
Aaroon Yang: 2015 was the year I found myself musically so i’m just warming-up but after my practice Ep comes out onAug, 21 2015 I’m going to work on making my music better for the rest of the year with maybe a few single releases here and there.
