Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
AlterFAM: We came across your page on twitter. We decided to sign up because Exposed Vocals provides a great platform for musicians like us.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
AlterFAM: AlterFAM are West African born musicians, Fame .G & Zuks of Alter, based in Cape Town, S.A.
Music has always been part of our culture, and we take that with us wherever we go.
(Fame .G: Always loved listening to different sounds when my mom practiced her choir hymns as a child).
We grew up as fans of other musicians. While growing up, one became fascinated with the process of being a musician and what it means to the society. It didn’t take too long to dream of becoming one.
We realized the impact of music in our daily lives and we just had to share it from our perspective.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
AlterFAM: Alter as the word implies, means change and that’s what we are here to do. We create change and impact on our society; plus we are doing that as a FAM.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
AlterFAM: We think it’s a great platform in our generation to be heard.
Yes, we give our music for free, because sometimes it is the best way to reach our FAM (fans).
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
AlterFAM: Be free to use your voice on whichever chance you get and whatever platforms. Think Big!
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
AlterFAM: Haha yes! Yes we do sometimes and its fun cause you get to re-invent something in the moment. So just do that; Alter the moment and make it count.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
AlterFAM: Not yet, but we planning on it soon. So watch out FAM!
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
AlterFAM: W$$$… Lol! Just kidding…We use our stories and whatever’s going on around us. Plus, we always have to be original so we make sure we use what it is that we truly feeling.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
AlterFAM: We planning on creating our official website ASAP. Platforms we use for now, include Soundcloud, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
AlterFAM: A West African party song about dirty panties… lol!
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
AlterFAM: Would spend time doing what we love (music+videos+fashion+) and investing in the future of it all.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
AlterFAM: Definitely! An upgrade to the fastest computer alive! For now we are working with our innovative home studio setup.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
AlterFAM: Social media, Playing Live and so on… All work best, hand in hand.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
AlterFAM: Michael Jackson, Fela, Wondaland, Skrillex, Kendrick Lamar, Tory Lanez. They all have a very unique perspective of music.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
AlterFAM: Well for starters our upcoming EP due for release in December 2015, followed by more music videos and stories… We also have an upcoming webisode show on our Youtube channel called “The Boomba Sessions” with Fame G. and even more…
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
AlterFAM: We would be Teachers, AlterTEACH. Lol!
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
AlterFAM: (Zuks of Alter: yah it was a gospel music cassette, a Kirk Franklin album. Fame G.: online streaming…)
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
AlterFAM: Its tough sometime but we make do. Music has always been a big part of growing so we always have time for it.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
AlterFAM: A released EP, dope music videos, webisodes, and al lot more.. Yayeah!
