Exposed Vocals caught a quick Q&A with ‘Thumbhole Records’
Exposed Vocals: So, you mentioned Thumbhole Records isn’t a normal Record Label. What is it exactly?
Thumbhole Records is more like a promotion tool for upcoming bands who have all the talent and energy to make it, but just need a bit more spotlight to get their tracks heard.
We put together compilations of upcoming bands from around the world, with the idea that if each band can promote the compilation to their fan base, it’s almost a big international cross pollination of fans! So we’re pretty much the David Attenborough of record labels…
On top of that obviously, we do the promo leg work and speak with the press to make sure as many people as possible hear about these bands!
Exposed Vocals: How do bands get involved with these compilations?
We are aiming to do a compilation every quarter in 2018. We normally open up entries on our website first, so it’s best to follow us on social so you know when we can take submissions! After a few weeks we’ll close those down and listen to ALL of them. For the last compilation we had 500 entries so that was fun.
Exposed Vocals: Tell us a bit more about your last compilation, Tracks You Might Have Missed v2
So our new ‘series’ of compilations is called Tracks You Might Have Missed. Our old Punkalicious compilations were great but we found that the name limited us a bit. We wanted to branch out a bit into the ‘not quite punk’ worlds of metal, indie, alternative rock etc. And not to blow our own trumpet, but did we smash it out of the park with TYMHM v2 or WHAT! The bands involved this time are hugely talented, and all bring an individuality to the compilation that really makes it feel special. From the super pop punk anthems from Felicity, to the hard riffs and beautiful vocals from Defences, it’s a corker.
Exposed Vocals: When does the compilation come out and how can we listen to it?
The compilation will be available on 11th December in pretty much all major digital stores! That means you can stream it from Spotify, grab it from iTunes or even download the MP3s etc from BandCamp! Free for all!
Exposed Vocals: What is a Thumbhole?
Ha! Well it’s a long story but basically we were trying to explain to someone years ago about how not to cover up the ‘thumb hole’ of a CD when printing CD artwork… they thought we said bumhole… everyone laughed… and it’s stuck!
