Exposed Vocals caught an Exclusive with The Sables
The Sables – underground EDM group formed by some members of the famous Moscow hip-hop flava “СНЗЗ” and frontman of the international garage-rock band “Untitled Group”, which supported “Bloc Party” back in the day.
The Sables was played by the DJ for the first time in “Cocoon Club” of Frankfurt, where the lead singer lives, in August of 2015.
Musicians are interested in the hardest paths of EDM: breaks, big-beat, acid-techno, minimal-techno, IDM, experimental. Their goal in bringing the real raw rock power to the unique EDM tunes.
First 2015 The Sables EP “Right Time Is Now” – feel the sound of Frankfurt/London/Moscow combination! Listen how garage rock collides with breakbeat!
New 2016 The Sables EP «Vibe» – let’s play grunge on the field of minimal-techno! Minimal-techno – maximum creativity: acid, IDM, experimental…
Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
The Sables: Blame fucking Twitter for it!
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
The Sables: We are all half-Russians. We were born in Moscow, Lefortovo. After graduating from universities, Art moved to London, Richie to Frankfurt and Sable #3 stayed in hometown. So we all have academic degrees, good jobs and become an artists trying to find a hobby, ha-ha-ha … You know, Buckcherry? “I didn’t do it for money, I did it all for free, I did it all to fill the fucking hole inside of me!” (Richie sings Buckcherry “So far”)
We were trying to make music in these different countries: Richie was a frontman of an indie band, Art was a successful solo guitar player, Sable #3 was messing at home with electronica and his sequencers and synthesizers. When we met again, we realized that together we can make the music that we always wanted to make.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
The Sables: The sable represents Russia perfectly. Only Russian czars could wear this fur. It is very expensive, rare, unique and sables lives in permafrost zone, ha-ha-ha… Also, they have the best fur and the sharpest teeth ever! But to be honest, we realized it later – Richie is the big fan of The Strokes, so he brought this idea to life. And we really make very rare music by mixing real raw power rock vocals and lyrics with unique EDM tunes.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
The Sables: This is our personal position on this issue – music that makes sense must exist in two formats online: for the usual audio listener, on SoundCloud, MixCloud, Reverbnation, PromoDJ etc, it should be downloaded or presented for free but in 128 VBR or so – good enough for free pleasure. For the real fans of the bands, for the djs, who makes money out of it by playing their sets and selling their mixes it should be downloaded in the digital stores like iTunes, BeatPort or Juno, in perfect quality WAV or Flac at the right price. It is fair and square, pure and simple – professional musicians, famous artists, rock-n-roll legends, talented young producers are all hard working fanatics of their job/hobby, they dedicate to the process of making music huge part of their lifetime and original masterpieces should be appreciated, including fair money equivalent.
If you just started to be a musician and want to share your tunes with any human being for free to make some promo for your name – do it. Anyways, if your music is shit, nobody will download it, even if it’s free.
We are not only talking but also doing. Here’s the link to our biggest hit up to date, the only song by the underground EDM band with Russian background that scored fantastic 8,8 out of 10 at ReverbNation Crowd Review
The Sables – “Right Time Is Now” on SoundCloud for your free listening, also you can find and download it by yourself on ReverbNation. For the better quality, for your audiophile collection go shopping motherfuckers, you can find The Sables in any digital store, iTunes, BeatPort, Juno, Amazon, Trackitdown etc.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
The Sables: Stop bullshit music – that’s the only tip, advice or whatever… We made EP “Right Time Is Now” with its slogan “Listen, how garage rock collides with breakbeat!” and scored 8,8 out of ten on ReverbNation with its self-titled single. We made EP “Vibe” with its slogan “Let’s play grunge on the field of minimal techno” and hit TOP 100 BeatportPro. Don’t be afraid to make something different from mainstream, unloose yourself. “So, what the matter with you, sing me something new…” (Richie sings Oasis song “Stand By Me”)
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
The Sables: Never. We rarely play live, so we planned by ourselves lights, lasers, stage, seats – everything, step by step, coz we make only closed private shows, often with striptease or pylon girls and quadrophonic sound. Not so much of an EDM fans know how The Sables look like – secrets attract people. FC/DC only, named tickets, no more than 100 people in the loft of the fashionable club. Yeah, it is expensive pleasure to see The Sables in bloom, but it’s worth it – do you see Panerai on the hand of Richie, ha-ha-ha?..
But people say that it’s like to see The Prodigy and Nirvana at their best at the same time together so it is fair play. Don’t forget, sables have the most expensive fur in the world!
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
The Sables: No way, we kinda like studio band, with private parties sometimes and luxury music. Fuck touring bus, we prefer comfortable conditions.
But we have one story for the readers. When The Sables song was played by the dj for the first time in August of 2015 at the dancefloor of Frankfurt’s famous “Cocoon” club, we wanted to shoot the video of that moment, and the phone was in Richie’s hands. But he was so “high” or “stoned” that had no clue what he is shooting. At the end of the night we find that there’s only table full of glasses on the video and our song is playing somewhere on the noised background. And we had to shoot the club’s crowd and dj’s console at the afterparty and then mix it with the sounds from Richie’s phone to make first ever The Sables promo video for the labels. Now this song is the lead single of our last minimal techno EP “Vibe”, was in the TOP 100 of BeatportPro and has another promo video, made by label FMR – you can find all our videos on Youtube, BTW. Now it’s called “In Trance” and available for listening by the SoundCloud link below. You can also download it in perfect quality at BeatportPro or iTunes, of course.

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
The Sables: Feel the sound of Moscow/London/Frankfurt combination – that’s our everlasting motto! You know, there is so much in this mix, enough for 10 more albums, if you’re really in it. Frankly, we wanted to show that we are almost perfect and unique in any aspect of EDM, so we just select one genre and make the best release that ever came out in this musical style from the band with the roots in USSR. Two rivers flow in us – rock and EDM. We are underground EDM band – it means no rules.
Now we want to thank famous Moscow hip-hop flava “CH33”, without their priceless help none of this could be possible!
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
The Sables: At the time when artists have plenty of good internet services like ReverbNation, Bandcamp, PromoDJ, SoundCloud, MixCloud, the real websites are needed only by small group of legendary artists, which have great and stable fan base. It’s all for the fans looking for any news of their idols. We are not such a big fish so far, that’s why you can find The Sables all over the internet on the official pages of the band on the web portals listed above. It is more than enough for us right now.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
The Sables: Embarrassing? Why do we need to listen to the embarrassing songs? We already said – stop bullshit music! Stop listening and making embarrassing songs, which you are ashamed of. We listen to the good sounds. Richie got in his iPhone songs by his 3 favorite bands The Beatles, Oasis, The Strokes. That’s why he is the voice of the band, and our band sounds this great! Art all in The Orb, Underworld etc. Sable #3 don’t listen music at all. He creates it.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
The Sables: Put the money in the bank and back to the studio ASAP!
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
The Sables: Now we only look for the old vintage analog synthesizers at the internet auctions or rag fairs.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
The Sables: It’s clear – if you are able to create something worth, you will find promoter or indie label at any specialized musical portal kinda like PromoDJ. These guys grab a half of your money, but your name will be known so-so and your music will be in all of the digital stores. Then, if you’re too talented or lucky, you would be famous and signing contract with major label with your own rules, selling CDs and vinyls with your name on the paper cover in physical shops like Wal-Mart, ha-ha-ha…
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
The Sables: Richie would perform with Julian Casablancas and other Sables would shout the fuck up.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
The Sables: We are planning to release the compilation of The Sables songs remixed by various djs and producers – Future Funk Squad, Lethal Injections, Devil Dragon Tatoo etc. Coming out in February or so, in all digital stores! “What the Fuck?” remix will tear all bass charts apart!!!
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
The Sables: We already said, all of us have academic degrees and good jobs. Our music is lifestyle-hobby. That’s why we’re not touring and not playing in front of the crowd full of stupid greenhorns, thank God…
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
The Sables: Richie – Coldplay, “A Rush of Blood to the Head” CD. I was blown away by “In My Place”. So simple, so perfect…
Art – The Prodigy, “The Fat of the Land” CD. It was a really hot summer!
Sable #3 – Never bought a thing in my life.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
The Sables: We already settled down the things that kept us from balance between real job, family and lifestyle-hobby – music. When you are suffering being an artist – find yourself a job or other hobby. Only when you can feed your family, be respected, educated person, you can give all of your good vibrations to the music and create smart, beautiful tunes. You set yourself free and do the things that you like without dreaming about money to buy some food. That’s the way to make a good stuff for The Sables. We don’t care how the others deal with this so-called problem.
“Work and play they’re never okay to mix the way we do…” (Richie sings Jimmy Eat World “Work”).
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
The Sables: We have garage rock and breaks collided on the first EP; we played in grunge on the field of minimal techno on the second
New battlefield for the third studio The Sables EP “Collapse Collaborations” is electronica. We start to collaborate with new great sound producers, so now we’ll be more like Air and Royksopp, than The Chemical Brothers and Orbital. But with the same The Sables trademark rock power! We won’t stop till kill all genres of EDM, ha-ha-ha… (The Sables are laughing really loud)
