Exclusive Interview with Young Kafaun
Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
Young Kafaun: Well I heard about it on Twitter one of the people who work for “Exposed Vocals told me about it.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Young Kafaun: Well I grew up in Fayette County in Georgia. Basically growing listening to different types of music wether is Rap,Rock,Country, jazz, folk ,ETC made me love the sounds of it. So I took it and ran with it. Starting a 5 years old playing the drums on up to 13 when I started composing beats then got into writing lyrics to express feelings or just for the fun of it.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Young Kafaun: it was back in 7th grade where I told a girl my middle name which is KOFI the next day she come up to me flirtatious and says “Hey Kafaun” and then I’m think ..hey that name doesn’t sour too bad so I took her up on and and kinda ran with it also.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Young Kafaun: I have before I think if your sharing it..mostly a beat have it copyrighted I stress over the beat alone because people like to say they made the beat of like to hop on a track without giving the owner some credit..so as long as your sharing your music make sure you have a copy stashed a away for safe keepings.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Young Kafaun: Make sure you have a strong foundation beneath you. Wether it’s your team promoter,Manager or even if you just rocking as a walking label because when it comes down to it business creeps on you wether if it’s just you showing up have a good foundation and be prepared it’s always good to be prepared for whatever happens so that way you will feel more comfortable when you get on stage.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Young Kafaun: I remember one time I was on stage and I forgot the lyrics. Ha!! But the way the crowd was set up I was able to menouver away from that slip up and get back in the flow of things. It’s all about how you have the crowd going if your able to get the crowd moving then you should be good if you have a tiny slip up.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Young Kafaun: I haven’t really went on tour yet just been in the studio working on my craft. Hopefully a tour will come up soon tho.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Young Kafaun : inspiration? Hmmm I listen to a lot of oldies music from Sade to Debarge to Wu-tang clan and so on. So to make the stories I have in my head catch the listeners attention I kinda like to go outside of the box. And then the process…I’ll never really speak on that it would be really rare if I did you feel me? But it also comes a time where I’m workin on a track and some herb might come into play just to sweetin the pot a little bit.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Young Kafaun: well I started off on DatPiff shout out to them ..then you have of course the notorious Sound Cloud and some other websites that won’t come to mind right now but I know it’s on there. As far as websites go… that’s building as we speak.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Young Kafaun: lol I would say ” I don’t care” by Icona Pop more of a different type of feel then embarrassing you feel me. Like if I was chillin with my squad and they saw that it would definitely be a question of why I have it in there but hey we all have different emotions.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Young Kafaun: Of course start off by giving my mother a little piece of it for all the trouble she went through then put a little in the stash then whatever I have left treat myself to a little somethin take my lady out somewhere you know the usual only so much you can do with Half but that’s when money management comes into play.
