EMINEM vs. DBONE battle rap! Wait, what? Check it out! New Exposed Vocals Interview!
How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
I believe I came across Exposed Vocals on Twitter, and then I noticed one of their tweets and it stuck out. There are many many social music sites. But I have found that many don’t do the work and from what I’ve seen Exposed Vocals does work. What I mean by that is Exposing the artist in a decent manner and inexpensively. Not $375 a week for crying out loud. I signed up because it had two options….Video’s are a must, and the other side a matching “effort”
So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Im from Denver Colorado. I spent a little time in both Alaska and Tennessee. I actually moved to Nashville back in 2005. I started playing punk in 6th grade and well it expanded to both jazz and funk and blues. Dbone has been on the scene since 1993. After some time I began to fall in love with the craft of songwriting. Both the performance, recording, and writing.
How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
I was drawing a comic book in the early 90’s and it was about this band “Spavrick and the Groovies” and the enemies(different in each issue) were set on stealing the Groove. The bass player was a oversized lizard named D-Bone…. and when you got D-Bone brotha, good things come to those who just kick back and groove. (Patience)
What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
I do music because I truly love to do it, its natural and not a job. Music is fine by me in fact its probably better because hey I WANT PEOPLE TO HEAR IT, and maybe they’ll even catch my messages.
Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Just spend the time to hone your craft. The patience is definitely worth it. There is a lot of stuff I did in the past that im glad didn’t make it. Milestones…..Find your “industry ready” you’ll know when your there, but stay humble in the process.
Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Every dang show! For the longest time I beat the crap out of my self, and finally I decided I was playing too much so I slowed down and improved my percentage rate of mistakes. Overplaying is like over studing for a test and then you draw a blank.
Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
I’ve done 2 tours in the past and I had planned one for 2013 but it never panned out and that’s due to some interior family issues=DIVORCE.
Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
I just write what comes natural, mainly struggles with love, sex, and girls, mmmm that want for someone close. Reaal close.
Do you have a band website? Do you have a Facebook or Twitter? Do you use Bandcamp, Spotify, ExposedVocals or SoundCloud to share your music?
Yes….I have many. I consider home my blog site which is basically dedicated to everything but music. I want my fans to feel like they know me so write about the everyday battle. dbonearchives.wordpress.com also dbone STORE.

I might be missing one or two…
What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
I actually don’t have an mp3 player, but ill tell ya what….I still a Michael Jackson fan. I even liked ol’ George Michael. (don’t repeat that) just kidding…lol
If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Invest in the industry with no doubt. whether it be equipment, a bus, a studio, a storefront, Im plan on breaking in many pieces when time is right.
Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
All….I took a year off for my DIVORCE so that I could grieve it and clear away the dust. Im down to just a guitar right now, so yes I have many upgrades coming. I just went back to work so Im trying to do something every week. This week is you.
How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Self Promotion has got to be the worst thing an artist can do. It sucks but its necessary. I like using headliner.fm its really worked good for me.
If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Ive been planning a battle between EMINEM vs. DBONE one show only. We battle and then we combine for a one time sickness. Maceo Parker, Bootsy,P-funk, Sublime, Pepper, and Jason Mraz, not to forget Jamiroquai.
So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Acoustic EDM is a niche im currently doing and have a huge show in February 24th with like 20 DJs and go-gos the whole 9. I m playing at the end of the night with a great DJ Jack-Jack #trancefamily. That’s all I can divulge but on Soundcloud theres a 3 hour with JaBig. and Deep House Cat.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Im an Electrician,, uh yeah I don’t breathe pipe and wire. Pizza I do breathe but it doesn’t pay enough for my two boys.
Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Thriller and Yellow Submarine, yes vinyl……zombiez and bubbles, and yellow octopuses.
How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Very diligently, luckily the drive is natural but Ive got mostly everything spaced and scheduled. I do try to blog daily, tweet and post to facecrook.
What should fans look forward too for the rest of 2014 and beyond
Well I just got a distributor so my next album which is an EP Conspiracy comes out Jan 28th 2014 on an International scale in 30+ stores (online) Shows, Shows, Shows……and hopefully Radio Radio Radio… my niches are all genres so Im trying to seek out those souls with need. Souls love music they can identify with, if I can help just one soul….I succeed. #SOULTRAFFIC. is #groundbreaking!
Well thank you sooooo much for this opportunity, since my relationship with exposed vocals, I believe change has occurred, and I’ll promote the shit of Exposed Vocals. Thanks and God Bless
