Electric Vision Review from shag-E music’s Paradox
Electric Vision is just the tip of the iceberg, but I realize that words like this tend to hypnotize into a blend of confusion and fascination. When Randy sent me this latest instrumental album for review, I peeped the album name and stared at it as I hit play.Paradox, huh? That Randy, such a trendy mother fucker. Then about 40 minutes later, I’m knee-deep in his album, and I fucking love it.
Minimal, progressive and glitchy, Electric Vision is the musical equivalent to a vibrating chair in a darkened room. You’re moving involuntarily, but you’re fucking comfortable as shit, and what you don’t see is nothing compared to what you feel. Electric Vision is like new socks in new drawls fresh out of a hot shower with a whole bunch of awesome shit on the DVR with four hours to kill.
I think what I appreciate most about the Paradox album is that it’s tasteful from every angle, taking no hard corners or braking too fast. Gradual additions of synths and melody, the drums never into the elements meant to compliment them, and it’s a peaceful and dark approach to instrumental music. Paradox is a titstacular demonstration of restraint and respect for the listener, keeping perfectly calm while painting a haunting and grey picture beneath the shadows of electronic music.
