Has EDM gone Country? Zimri with REM “you’d instantly recognize on nights out”
“Has EDM gone Country? ..or maybe it’s just saving country music?”
Maybe it’s that country and electronic dance music (EDM) are both, at their core, dance-oriented styles of music. Maybe there’s something exotic in the Southern twang of a country singer showing up on a dance record. For whatever reason, more and more EDM dance DJs and producers have been bringing in country singers as featured vocalists on their recordings lately.
There’s this emotion in country music that’s special. If you’re able to capture that and implement it into dance music, you get the energy of dance music but the emotion of country music. It makes a really cool combination. That’s what happened with REM by Zimri
This is a pretty fantastic piece of music, a great way to start the weekend. The energy is just about as high as can be, right from the start, yet just as you think it may be getting complacent in it’s sound and structure, everything develops and evolves. Maybe it’s my love for genre fusing music, but this track had me doing an extra half mile on the treadmill this morning! The hook is fantastic as well:
“Drift away to where you’ll be / Sink into your memory”
It’s a massive track, one you’d instantly recognize on nights out, or anywhere in fact, and this is true from the very first few seconds of music. There’s a fresh energy that comes with it and I’m looking forward to listening to what else Zimri has to offer.
