Eden Marquis – Self Healing Song “The personal touch brings a bit of humanity to the mix”
The song has a pleasant and appealing concept and many of the lyrics and detectable instrumental elements add to this in a relevant and ambient manner. The way the song has been mixed leaves a little bit of flatness to how everything involved is connected, the voice seems to be placed quite separate from the beat, and that initial beat as featured in the first half of the song has a certain industrial thickness to it that doesn’t flow as smoothly as the one that comes later on. A slightly more specific and detailed application of compression, EQ and reverb could help connect the dots a little more atmospherically, though really the latter half of the track has a much more peaceful and calming aura.
The lyrics feature honesty and imagery that takes inspiration from heartfelt and reflective poetry. As stated, this really fits well with the concept of self healing, of overcoming difficulty, of becoming well again. There is mention of nature and freedom, and there is also a fair bit of evolution within the movement of the song – the structure has been considered, and interestingly, it is the musical components that most effectively represent and underline the changes. The beat comes through with various creative moments that help keep things interesting right the way through.
As the final curtain approaches the two vocal parts are laid fairly bare and this really highlights the strength of the expression and the melody. To then go back and listen over is to anticipate the upcoming evolution and more willingly lose yourself to the mood of the soundscape. The personal touch brings a bit of humanity to the mix, and the beat has a lot of creative potential that offers something fresh and appealing.
