Eargasm E.P. by Compton Boys review
Formed in 2011, Compton Boys are an American RnB group comprising of cousins
Sadique and Michael Compton. They have worked with Marcus Majors and Potent
Factor which resulted in the track Always, which is on this E.P. Eargasm. Sadique is a
producer himself as well as a rapper.
Always is the first track, a funky RnB track with a great chorus that lodges in the
mind and splits up the rapped verses nicely. The rapping flows smoothly in rhythm
with the beat, and tells the tale of infatuation. The cousins double up on one verse
which is effective, both locked tight together in sync. It’s a good choice of lead track
and an obvious choice for a single.
Second track Trust Issues is short but sweet at just two minutes long, with a slinky
groove and languorous organ that sets a laid back mood. I Know What To Do is much
more lyrically raw, with a harder sound. Lyrically it has the ladies very much in mind,
and shows the Compton Boys can get ‘down n dirty’ when they want to, which will get
them fans from those into hardcore rap.
Everytime starts with some nice Spanish acoustic guitar, before progressing into
another nice groove with some risqué, sensual lyrics that are still tasteful nonetheless.
No need to bleep anything out, which means its still good for radio, and with another
strong hook (‘Everytime I think about you….’), it would also do well as a single. Both
cousins rap together on this one, and it was my personal favourite.
Hola Mamacita has an unusual guitar riff in the background with the most laid back
beat of the lot. Like Trust Issues, it is pretty short at two minutes twenty, bringing the
E.P. to a quirky but satisfying close.
Overall, it’s a good listen, and with Always and
Everytime, they have two real winners for radio on their hands.
