Dirtycakes – In the Garden (Whisper Version)
Dirtycakes explore the hypnosis of the groove with the grunge garage rock of “In the Garden (Whisper Version)”. A truly possessed powerful work, they have an animalistic fervor to the way they let it all build itself up into a chaotic din. When they hold things back there remains that underlying tension that suggests a sudden burst of energy to be unleashed upon the listener. In fairness, they do actually unleash their almighty amps in a way that becomes physical in nature. Genre-wise, while they have a fondness for the gritty lo-fi rock energy, they also touch upon elements of psychedelic rock with the constant cyclical nature of the grooves
The beginning proves to be the quietest moments. From there, they simply blast off into the sky. Layer upon layer is added and subtracted from the mix with such care. With all of this chaos, they never lose sight of their infinite infectious energy. Hooks are aplenty for there is an inherent bloom to the way they simply allow the driving rhythm to move into the breaking point. Volume isn’t even a must they inflict this pain onto the listener by letting their approach gain a poignancy. Although vocals are sparse they perfectly set up the atmosphere, floating away to further add to the sense of exploring the unknown.
“In the Garden (Whisper Version)” Dirtycakes shows off their impeccable skill for they veer wildly stylistically, refusing to be pigeonholed and instead forging their own path.
