Diana Louise – ‘Like A Model “rhythm and poetry of the lyrics falls around you with their imagery and personality.”
The placement of the leading vocal within this mix makes it appear as more of a multi-layered EDM track than something a singer/songwriter or pop vocalist might put out. The voice appears as simply another instrument, another synth, which actually works really well in the context of the overall soundscape.
The longer you listen, as the track progresses, there are a number of characteristics that make for signature traits of the release. The high end of the synth backdrop offers a memorable and uplifting riff, the beat alongside of this, and every other moment of music, every note, adds to an overall energising vibe. As you familiarise yourself with it, the leading vocal takes on a slightly different role. The lyrics of the hook are perhaps the first to really sink in, then as you listen over you’re likely to follow the voice along with a bit more intent. The opening verse is laid a little more bare so the rhythm and poetry of the lyrics falls around you with their imagery and personality. In general though, the music hits as that of the dance or electronica world, the opposite of organic in many ways, yet crafting a bright and colourful ambience around you nonetheless.
The strength of the hook is notable as the concept and those three words make for a simple, memorable line. The repetition reinforces it, and the approach behind the whole thing makes for something that can hopefully be recognised in future as the sound of Diana Louise. Much of the musical backdrop is formed out of those vocals, hence the instrumental feel. Everything works in unity to complete the effect, and the song stands out for all of these reasons.
