Creative and melodic element to the instrumentals behind the vocals. – I FYE feat BIG RELL by Antonial Alexander
This track takes the expectations of classic hip-hop and builds on it with a somewhat original musicality that is quite refreshing to hear, musically speaking. The track has everything you’d want it to for something inspired by this genre, particularly in terms of the lyrics, but the music has a world of freshness to it that suggests a talented producer with a lot more for audiences to look forward to. The production is creative, there are several different moments to it; there’s a sense of change and evolution as the whole thing progresses – there’s even a slightly creative and melodic element to the instrumentals behind the vocals.
The vocals throughout are well mixed and confidently performed, which is important – particularly with rap music. There’s no singular voice in the song that stands out at any point, it feels like more of a group effort, whereby everyone involved has played an equal part, so there’s value in that.
The song lasts longer than you might expect, the benefit of this is that you get to see that backing track unfold and build – as mentioned, the music has a great ambiance to it. The other benefit is that the group performance of the hook finally makes it’s way into your mind towards the end of the track, so, in terms of song writing; the whole thing has been put together in a pretty effective way.
The music has a slightly vintage twang to it on occasion, some of the synth sounds that come into play are reminiscent of an early nineties kind of vibe – which sounds great, and fits well among the rest of the elements that keep things fresh. None of the lyrics outside of the title idea are massively memorable, but the music speaks louder than the words in this case, so it still works well.
