Crashed Into Me by Sophia “MoJo” review
Sophia MoJo is an RnB/pop and EDM and soul singer, as well as a songwriter and producer, hailing from Los Angeles. She started her musical journey at the age of only six, when she began songwriting. She honed her singing and writing skills, inspired by artists such as Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. In 2013, she started producing her own music which began the journey of her solo career.
This year sees the release of her first EP, coming out in August. This track, Crashed Into Me, is a classy pop/dance song and immediately grabs your attention with a brooding intro of just synth and Sophia’s vocals. Her voice is rich and soulful, with a wide range and a strong falsetto. It’s not long before the main title hook lodges in your mind and then a four to the floor beat kicks in, bringing the track to life.
Along with the catchy vocal hook, there is an equally hummable sax-style synth riff that weaves in and out the track. Lyrically, it’s about falling in love and the emotional impact it’s had, put in quite a poetic way: ‘Bang bang, like lightning in the sky, two rocks collide and they say the earth was made…’. There are also some nice harmonies and vocal ad libs that further enrich the music.
Overall, this is one of those instant songs that already sound like a hit as soon as you hear them. The hook is irresistibly catchy and Sophia has the kind of big voice that sells millions of records. With the song placed perfectly between pop and EDM, Sophia has all bases covered, as it is perfect for both radio and the clubs.
