“very classic feeling of underground hip-hop” M1sta White – We In Da Building
The track has a consistent darkness to it that actually comes across in a fairly creative and unusual way. There’s a level of emotion to the music at times, for the most part there’s a very classic feeling of underground hip-hop about the sound, and as mentioned – there’s a definite level of creativity. The production in particular, or the mix, the backing track – there’s a structure to it, there’s a sense of thoughtful creative play, not merely the grouping together of certain loops. In addition to this, you can really notice the vocal performances adjusting to the music, which is great to listen to – the whole track works together as a unit, every element and every moment in tune with those around it. The change in energy for the varying sections is really interesting, it grabs your attention, and it feels like a couple of different tracks within the space of one, though in a good and appealing way.
The ideas and the performances and the sounds chosen to back it all up seem to represent a very distinct style or collection of creatives, and that’s a great thing to have mastered – the clarity of the thread throughout the track, despite the creative freedom that’s consistently evident. It can be difficult to sound original these days in such a saturated world of music, without sacrificing detail and style, and so what’s been achieved is definitely worth checking out.
Without the structure and the varying sections the track has less impact, though there’s still something very solid and compelling about certain vocal and musical moments. The music distracts from the lyrics a little on first listen, but that’s all the more reason to listen again – hopefully bringing people back for more after trying out the sound.
