” a brilliant example of creative freedom” Zitro – O
This track is a brilliant example of creative freedom intertwined with skillful musicianship. The result is an overall feeling of alternative artistry, but expressed in the form of an effectively written song with plenty to appreciate about it. The music evolves in a way that at times makes structural sense, in terms of catering to what the average listener is known to appreciate, but at other times it veers off in some entirely unexpected direction – this too actually adds great appeal. At either time, you find yourself hanging on the lyrics – these are far from your typical pop songwriter ideas, and this is something greatly valuable and appealing at the moment.
The music has a simplistic nature to it, there are a minimal amount of instruments, and there’s a notable amount of space within the verses – almost giving off the impression of this being musical poetry, spoken word with a melody incorporated afterwards, and a soundscape built around (or prior to) the expression of these ideas.
The whole sound and style is fresh, without a doubt, it’s not familiar in any way, though it’s enjoyable to listen to. It creates a certain mood and the leading vocal sounds fantastic – particularly in those moments of deep emotional reflection and heavy reverb. There’s also something of a retro feel to the leading and opening riff though, and this fused with flickers of piano and a very minimal beat, works well to create something unusual but compelling. The melody at times is reminiscent of Pink Floyd, the musical style on occasion draws comparison to Bowie, but all in all this creative freedom is executed flawlessly – there’s nothing else quite like this available at present, the artist has been true to their own creative desire and direction, and that makes for something undeniably unique.
