“Bling Blaow” featuring SLIMMY B

Few other rappers are receiving the kind of come-up that Nef the Pharaoh is enjoying in 2017. Then again, few of Nef’s peers are putting in the kind of work the Bay Area rapper is serving up. He’s fresh from releasing The Chang Project, his fourth mixtape in two years, which itself is just a taster from his forthcoming debut album The Big Chang Theory. This is of course impressive, but really all one needs to hear to turn you into a Nef-stan is the music itself.

Look no further than a track like “Bling Blaow,” an ode to decadent chains that is laced with one of the filthiest bass-line hooks of the year. It also comes with a frenetically-paced music video (E-40 cameo and all):

Following in the footsteps of the Bay Area legends, Nef the Pharoah is making a big name for himself out of his hometown Vallejo. Starting off as an unknown internet freestyler, Nef AKA Tonee Hayes was signed by the NoCal Godather E-40 after “Big Tymin,” Nef’s NOLA Bounce tribute blew up locally and countrywide. Pharoah got a huge look when YG and Ty Dolla $ign remixed the track, taking his fame and credibility to the next level. Since then, 2014’s “Bay Area Freshman of the Year” has collaborated with the likes of Snoop Dogg, D.R.A.M., and Mistah F.A.B.

Nef’s steady evolution as an artist is fueled by his ability to leverage opportunities. In the last year alone, its estimated Nef has played around 250 live shows. This summer, Nef plans to drop The Big Chang Theory, an album full of “arena music,” which, in part, he says is inspired by his time on the road. Already a leader at home, the young Vallejo spitter is finding his well deserved success beyond the Bay, proving that Nef The Pharoah was born to rule.
