Exposed Vocals Interviews Matt Proctor
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Matt Proctor : I grew up in a small town called Ocala. Besides being the “horse capital of the world” not much else is happening there. I love where I came from and appreciate the things it taught me, but after High School I had to dip.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Matt Proctor : My Artist name is just my Government name. I wanted something that would be straight and to the point. I’m not someone who’s flashy, I didn’t expect my stage name to be either.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Matt Proctor : As of now, all of my music is free. I understand both sides when it comes to the music sharing, but I have no problem giving away my stuff for free. When I started all of this, I was never after money or fame. Just wanted to share my story and help someone else out there.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Matt Proctor : It’s tough, I am still a no one in the grand scheme of things. My only advice would be to keep grinding and believing in yourself, don’t settle or take no for an answer.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Matt Proctor : I have actually not had a live show, but those will be starting very soon. Working with some people to get a couple shows throughout Florida.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Matt Proctor : Not yet, I plan on touring soon though. The dream is of course to sell our arenas on a World Tour one day.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Matt Proctor : The writing process is the most important to me. I like to relax, sit down alone and just write. I always have the idea in my head of what I want to say or do, then I just get it on paper. I am always typing notes into my phone, throughout the day. As far as inspiration, I love being a student of Hip-Hop and listening to other Artists and what they have and are still creating. I also enjoy branching out and touching on different genres. I love 60’s music.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Matt Proctor : My official website is mattproctormusic.com – Stay tuned there for everything regarding the music, shows, etc. You can find my music on Soundcloud, as well as Youtube, and BandCamp. Itunes and Spotify coming soon. Also, check me out on Facebook, and twitter @mattprocmusic
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Matt Proctor : Honestly I’m not embarrassed by anything on my Ipod. All music to me is art, I respect everyone’s opinion, but I enjoy everything I listen to and have no shame about it.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Matt Proctor : I would pay off all my debt first, not all rappers have money. I would for sure take care of my Mom, and the people close to me. The rest would just go towards the Music and this movement.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Matt Proctor : I recorded everything for the most part at my house, in my closet which I turned into a makeshift studio. While I was crammed in my closet recording 300 Seconds, It always made me want to grind harder so I could be successful and get out of the closet. I also have a producer, Alec Covell that really helps me on each song and makes what I have in my head come to life.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Matt Proctor : It’s super hard. I try to be as active as I can on social media, and really engage with anyone who is interested in me and my music.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Matt Proctor : My dream is to play a sold out show at Madison Square Garden. If I could perform with someone, It would have to be Drake. That’s someone who has inspired and taught me so much about music.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Matt Proctor : I have taken a step back lately to regenerate my energy after the release of “Matt Proctor Presents : 300 Seconds”. I am getting ready to get back into the lab here shortly. Lyrics have been flowing, and it’s almost time again. Stay tuned.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Matt Proctor : I love to write, and I love sports. I also have a really strong passion for Film. I would like to be in one of those fields, doing some sort of work. One day after it’s all said in done, maybe.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Matt Proctor : The very first album I ever purchased was “Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ by 50 Cent. I was so in awe of the album artwork and how raw the sound was. I went on to really get into G-unit and Eminem.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Matt Proctor : No sleep. I am always doing something, it’s always hectic trying to balance everything, but it’s all worth it.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Matt Proctor : New Music. Shows. I have a few other things that everyone will just have to stay tuned for as well.
