“Touches of feeling and emotion scattered throughout the song” Xavier Keyz – The Weekend
Listen to The Weekend by Xavier Keyz  below:
Really crisp production brings out the gentle soundscape of this track, particularly from the start. The beat hits a little harder than expected, but as the song progresses the beat has a lot about it that is fresh and creative, and it works well in the context of the song on the whole. The artist has an up close and personal vocal performance style, which again fits in with the mellow and intimate ambiance of the whole track. The way the song has been structured works well – the hook section is worked up towards, the pre-chorus has a great melody change; it’s also the point at which the music bulks out a little, the vibe lifts up, leading you into that main or chorus section with a fair amount of power.
Nothing lyrically stands out a huge amount, but Xavier has a fairly clear sense of character, some similarities could be raised, but vocally it’s fresh and easy to listen to. The vibe of the music suits the concept really well. You’d recognise the track after just hearing it the one time, which is always a strong point. There are touches of feeling and emotion scattered throughout the song writing and the performance, but for the most part there’s a sense of confidence and style expressed and that’s what helps the entire moment of music flow so well.
It would be good to hear something a little more off centre, with some unexpected lyrics, something a little more in line with the individuality of the artist, but that would be somewhere else – in a later release, taking the personal element even further. This track is one that many people will relate to, so it works well as an introduction to the artist.
