Exposed Vocals Interviews SNC Band (Something Called Nothing)
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Virginia: I grew up in Brownsville TX. My dad taught me how to play guitar when i was young, but picked it up off and on. My brother Pablo and I started the band as an outlet (Brownsville isn’t the best place to grow up). The rest as they say in history.
Jason: I never grew up. I had no musical experience prior to joining the band other than a passion for music.
Adam: I grew up in Brownsville TX with my two brothers and we all started singing and playing musical instruments at a very young age. At 13 I became enchanted by the musical genius’ of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Who and many others alike. After that i know the place for me was behind the drums.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Virginia: Not sure, but i think it suits us well given that our sound is like no other.
Jason: This was way before my time, but I like it!
Adam: Virginia came up with it long before I joined the band. But i was a fan before I was a member, and I’ve always thought the name was fun and unique.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Virginia: Of course, music is meant for the fans!
Jason: It’s one of the best was to get the word out about the band.
Adam: Online music has been around for over a decade now. It’s not going away. Any artist holding on to their music until they profit off it, is in the the game for all the wrong reasons.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Virginia:Continue having fun with what you are doing. If at one point it becomes too much work then it becomes a job.
Jason: Get out and support other local music and network!
Adam: Go see your friends’ bands and other bands often; they got a gig. Maybe they can point you to the right person. Get to know door and bar people; they work with the person who does booking. Playing in multiple bands also has been useful.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Virginia: Yes! all the time, I’m not perfect, but i do my best to recover and “play it off”.
Jason: I never make mistakes.
Adam: Oh yea I make mistakes onstage! It’s mostly my drumsticks flying out of my hands in the middle of a song! I just try to recover quick and get the beat on time.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Virginia: Yes and yes, but I plea the 5th!
Jason: Â ….
Adam: One time we went to Vegas. Enough said!
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Virginia: All my songs have a story behind them. I guess inspiration to me comes in many different ways, shapes and forms.
Jason: I may write about something I’m going thru at the time and usually starts lyrically and then i’ll write a tune for it, then i’ll record it on my phone and then lock it away and never let anyone hear it.
Adam: Listening to other artist inspires me to work harder to be a better drummer and musician all around.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Virginia/Jason/Adam:Â
Yes!

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Virginia: Oddly enough I don’t really have music on my phone.
Jason: My favorite song is “It’s raining men”.
Adam: I don’t consider it embarrassing at all, but i love Selena and have her music on my phone. And depending on the environment when that plays on shuffle it can be pretty funny.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Virginia: I’d travel the world and play music.
Jason: Sex, Drugs and Rock-n-roll!
Adam: First, I’d buy my mama that dream house she’s always wanted. Then i’d move to the Virgin Islands and live/work on the beach for a full year. Meanwhile I’d invest the remainder of the money; making sure to diversify my assets. Maybe buy a practical car for touring.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Virginia: Yes, we are looking to finish our second album soon.
Jason: I just got a sick new bass! I can’t wait to get into the studio.
Adam: Finishing the second album is priority at the moment. For me it’ll be the first one I’m on, which makes me happy.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Virginia: Mostly our webpage, facebook, word of mouth. (friends/family/fans)
Jason: I’m all about the Instagram game.
(instagram.com/yayson_es) (instagram.com/scnband)
Adam: All social media outlets are there to help each of us promote anyway we can. I stay focused on the ones you enjoy.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Virginia: Â That’s a difficult question to answer. There are so many great musicians that I think not only would it be cool to hand out with, but that I’d learn so much from.
Jason: Jack White, he’s an amazing musician.
Adam: I’d like to perform/hand out with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Or WAM as I’d call him). he and I would be drinking buddies. He’s talk about life and music in his century, I’d speak of life and music from the future.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Virginia: Currently we are starting to work on our upcoming 2017 tour. Stay tuned!
Jason: I’m hoping my bass playing will finally match what the guitar and drums are doing.
Adam: I’m working on catching up in age to my two band-mates.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Virginia: Probably being boring.
Jason: I’d be the freaking maintenance guy… wait a minute… I AM THE MAINTENANCE GUY!
Adam: I’d have a wife, a couple of kids, a mortgage payment and bills up the wazzoo!!
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Virginia: Yes! it was NIN “A downward spiral” I really enjoyed the originality and the feeling/power behind the lyrics.
Jason: It was Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Life was good then.
Adam: Mine was Reba Mcentire on cassette tape. I love that song “Fancy”.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Virginia: One day/thing at a time.
Jason:A series of calendars, group texts, reminders from friends about shows we have coming up etc. My life is a tangled web.
Adam: I wake up every morning and tell myself: You need to sing with all the voices of the mountain, and paint with all the colors…. of… the… wind.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Virginia: Another tour and a new album.
Jason: Goal is to be married once and for all and forever.
Adam: Expect the unexpected… and some of the expected.
