Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
SCHOP: I’m Indiana made but Atlanta raised. I was born in Indianapolis, Indiana (Naptown, Let’s Go Colts) and moved to East Atlanta, GA in 2004 with my mother, brothers and sister. We stayed on Memorial Dr, Decatur Georgia. (Da Cat Yard) My mother was a singer back home and that’s where I got some of my musical inspiration.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
SCHOP: Hahaha, Everyone asks how I got the name SCHOP (Shop). It’s a lingo I made up that I got alot of people saying. I use it for plenty of things and actually have a definition for it. Here is what SCHOP means:
SCHOP is a phrase (created by me) used in a conversation to show agreement with a topic, subject, or comment. It is always used to replace cordial words such as “Thanks” and “You’re Welcome”. SCHOP is also used as a greeting meaning “Wussup” or “Hey”. SCHOP can also be used as a (v) verb to represent understanding. Ex. Her “I’ll call you back”. Me “SCHOP”. SCHOPPING (SCHOP) (v) is a verb used when an individual or a group of people support, spend funds, or purchase any goods for or from your company, campaign, business, or any other event directly related to your benefit. Ex. “When I performed at The Vuu 2 I had everybody SCHOPPING. I ran out of CDs.” Ex. 2) I don’t have to tell them I’m bringing shirts for sale, They gone SCHOP anyway.” -SCHOP.
SCHOP: You SCHOPN right now and didn’t even know it.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
SCHOP: The world has changed and technology that allows artists, producers, Dj’s and more to share music online is fundamental these days. Everyone in the world is just about on the internet.
You have to give music away free sometimes. It’s a good way to build fans, expand globally, and show fan appreciation and network.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
SCHOP: I’ll tell you what Jadakiss told me…”Never lose focus of why you are doing this. Remember your motivation and you will never be a 1 hit wonder.” -Jadakiss
SCHOP: Shout out to Jadakiss
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
SCHOP: Naw I’m perfect! Just kidding lol But even my mistakes are part of the plan. You have to roll with the puches, plan your counter move, then go for the knock out.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
SCHOP:
I’m looking for a tour to join right now. I don’t have any funny tour stories to tell yall right now, but check back with me in the future.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
SCHOP: Everything comes from the higher power, the man upstairs. I just translate the words in my head. I don’t write, I translate. If I do want a new idea for a song or something like that I meditate. Then translate.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
SCHOP: Until my new page is finished being built go to www.reverbnation.com/
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
SCHOP: Anything your hear on my phone I put it there. But I can’t recall any embarrassing song, Music is music and you have to accept a song for what it is.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
SCHOP: Knowing me, I’ll probably take an early vacation and get back to work. But I would travel the world and sky dive at least once. Probably start a movie production company as well.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
SCHOP: Nope. Right now I record at Faderz Studio in Atl. They got all the equipment. I work with Shawdy Fresh, King Cee-O, Phenom Tha Don, K.E. On The Track, and more.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
SCHOP: Networking and working the net!
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
SCHOP: I’d have to perform at Madison Square Garden. The track would probably be a collab with Me, Tupac, and Michael Jackson. SCHOP!
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
SCHOP: Later this fall I plan on releasing my mixtape “Commissary and Postcards”. Yall be on the look out for that. I have some music videos to shoot as well to “Soul Food”, and “Use To Be Me” just to name a few.

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
SCHOP: The first album I bought was 50 Cents “Get Rich or Die Trying.” That album had so much emotion in it. I still love that album. “Many Men” had me going crazy.
