Everything you’d expect to find in a hard hitting hip-hop track – FlexGods “She F*ck With The Flex”
This track has everything you’d expect to find in a hard hitting hip-hop track that makes waves across it’s scene. The continuous riff playing throughout has a haunting and striking sound to it, alongside of the light yet industrial sounding beat – the stop and start nature of it, the creative play shown again and again in the backing track – the music stands tall by itself.
It’s a big track, the vocals on top of it all are well mixed, well performed, great flow from all involved – and of course you get that hook section, that repeated line which is memorable and crucial in drawing listeners in; that all important moment in which everyone can repeat the sound together, a chorus of sorts, that time at which you know the brand, you know the artists, and you know the music.
The hook works because it has a very similar sound to a lot of other hooks that are often the focal point of these type of heavy yet mellow, addictive hip-hop tracks. There’s a formula that is known to work well, and as long as the songwriter has the initiative to realise and utilise that, and as long as there is something creatively unique about it – which there is, the artist reference, the rhythm of the line itself, the performance confidence and overall the sound of words – then you’re on to a winner.
There’s a definite level of confidence in all areas on this track, and that’s a huge part of bringing it forwards into the spotlight. You can tell that this would strike hard at a live show, you invite the audience into the music with a hook like that, and then you have their attention while you spit the verses and the music continues to play. It’s effective.
