Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become a band?
White Tuxedo:We all grew up in Lincoln, Ne in relatively the same area. We were in three band’s together as well as had other project’s of our own prior to forming White Tuxedo. In the process of forming those three bands, we discovered we had great musical chemistry.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
White Tuxedo: Dylan and I (Dj) were joking about T-shirt designs one day and we had a song titled White Tuxedo. As we were talking we found that we liked the way White Tuxedo sounded as a band name.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
White Tuxedo: We love the aspect of it, it is an amazing way to get exposure in an ever complicated industry. We currently have two singles out for free download as a way to reach out to new fans and give our songs to those who support us.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
White Tuxedo: Just keep playing, writing, and perfecting your craft. In a very competitive world it’s easy to get discouraged and walk away, but you have to keep pushing forward.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
White Tuxedo: Who doesn’t? Everyone makes mistakes, the trick is learning from them. You have to brush it off and keep the show going.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
White Tuxedo: Currently we’re not on tour but look to tour in the near future. We imagine that touring together would be extremely interesting, and entertaining. Like maple syrup on spaghetti.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
White Tuxedo: Everyday life, and through the experiences that we live. When we create song’s Dj write’s the melody and lyric’s then brings them to practice. From there we play until we form something that sounds like White Tuxedo.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
White Tuxedo: Yes, we launched it early August of 2016. Right now we’re utilizing SoundCloud, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, SonicBids, and eventually would like to get our songs on iTunes, Amazon, etc.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
White Tuxedo: Mannequin-Katy Perry, Baby-Justin Bieber, Still into you-Paramore. Wouldn’t really call them embarrassing, but not the first thing we tell people we meet.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
White Tuxedo: We would hit the studio. Having that kind of money and time off, we would take advantage of it.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
White Tuxedo: We’re recording locally right now, but we’d like to progress to a bigger studio and produce higher quality songs.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
White Tuxedo: We do everything that we can, and pursue any avenues presented to us. We find our best success is through online platforms and word of mouth.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
White Tuxedo: Our drummer Dylan would love to perform with Maroon 5, OneRepublic and The 1975. Our bassist Tyler would like to perform with the doors at the whiskey a go go and with the Jimi Hendrix Experience at woodstock. Dj would like to play with Snoop Dogg at Wembley Stadium.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
White Tuxedo: We’re currently working on our first album, and trying to set up shows for late 2016 and early 2017.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
White Tuxedo: Most likely doing what we’re doing now to support our passion. It’s bizarre to think what we would exactly be doing without our music though.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
White Tuxedo: Dylan’s first album he purchased was Bowling For Soup’s “Drunk Enough to Dance.” Dj’s was Styx’s “Greatest Hit’s” album, and Tyler’s was Sublimes “40oz To Freedom.”
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
White Tuxedo: It can be very difficult, but our passion for what we love keeps us moving.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2017?
White Tuxedo: Our First Album and many more live performances.
