Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist? Â
Lady Seema Dee: I grew up in Ottawa, Ontario. I never really decided to become an artist it just kinda happened naturally. Music has always been apart of the family gatherings at such a young age.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Lady Seema Dee: My real name is Seema Deeljur so I just pretty much just cut out the ending part in the last name. Seema Dee sounded cool… pretty much haha
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Lady Seema Dee: I think in this new age, online music sharing is a great way to hear about more Artists, then your typical normal big hitters like ” Jay-z” or something. Don’t get me wrong Jay-Z is great but it’s nice to hear more Artists who don’t have that platform as big as Jay-z but still have the means to get their music heard through online sharing like someone as big as him. Â
Â
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Lady Seema Dee: Try to connect more with other Artists especially those who have had a lot of exposure or connections in the business. You never know you could fill in for someone sick or get that big break you’re looking for when a last minute sub-in is needed.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Lady Seema Dee: We all make mistakes, you’re best bet is to make a joke out of it. This actually breaks the ice more and people get more exposure to your personality whether you’re funny, shy or confident. So I guess it depends on your personality and what you want the audience to know about you.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?Â
Lady Seema Dee: Tour not recently , I’m still building my current Album and have just finished some singles. Once I build a Library of a music collection, it will be more entertaining when I do tour. Something Fresh!
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process? Â
Lady Seema Dee: I get inspiration from certain situations in my life, whether they are life changing or impacting my emotions in a certain way. My usual song writing process is a way to deal, cope with the situation and write it down.Â
Â
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Lady Seema Dee: I have a few websites whether it be Spinnup, youtube, etc. You name it. My main website would be at spinnup – lady Seema Dee since it links to all the others such as Youtube soundcloud etc.Â
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Lady Seema Dee: Well I have a lot of indian Bollywood songs that I guess would sound different since they are ethnic and the women sing really high. I personally love indian music though haha but it might sound different to someone else.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it? Â
Lady Seema Dee: I’d probably visit back home to my roots. The island of Mauritius , kick back relax and swim in the ocean!
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now? Â
Lady Seema Dee: I’m currently taking a step away from making/ producing my own beats and checking out what other instrumentals are out there from a variety of different other producers with sounds and vibrations. I’m currently experimenting a few different sounds.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Lady Seema Dee: I promote mostly through Facebook, Youtube, word of Mouth like on the streets.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?Â
Lady Seema Dee: I’d actually perform with Sean Paul somewhere in Toronto.. I like his current beat and sounds. He’s not regulated to one sound. He is always changing it up working with other professionals whether it be Beyonce to Enrique Eglesias.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Lady Seema Dee: I released a single called Breathe a while back. I’d like to release more singles to give people a taste of who I am and then build that collection into an album and have it released into one whole.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing? Â
Lady Seema Dee: Well in the past I was in Information Technology so I’d probably upgrade my Knack for fixing computers and Networking with Routers and devices.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head? Â
Lady Seema Dee: The first Album I can remember would be Mini Pops haha these were kids who remade well known tracks but the kid version, since you know I was a kid  back then too and could relate ( Other then MJ who I mostly grew up too also).
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life? Â
Lady Seema Dee: I take it with ease and try not to let stress become a factor. I like to be chillen, layed back when making music, so the listener feels like their chillen also haha
