Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
ShawnG0:to make a very long story short I always bin into music I grew up in almost every part of Sacramento at age 12 or 13 I moved with my mom and siblings to Omaha Nebraska were I continued my passion for music even tho I wasn’t serious at the time I still dedicated a lot of time to it I was 17 wen I lost my five year old sister to a gun shot to the head I left Omaha for good and came back to Sacramento were I began to take my craft serious with me still getting over my sisters death it took 4 long years to get serious with my music so to answer the last question I always was an artist what made be get serious is the lost of my sister it pushed me in a different way.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
ShawnG0:honestly the name was given to me by a long time friend and dope artist The Gatlin we were in the studio one night working like usual when your with gat and I don’t know he just brought it up and I ran with it true story.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
ShawnG0:I think its a cool outlet if you wanna reach a lot of lazy people I guess I’m more of a up close and personal kind of guy I came up selling my own mix tape my first project Identity Crisis I sat out side of gas stations all day selling them for five a CD professional cases nothing degrading everything was good and I think I’ll stick to that strategy, and yes I do give away a lot of free music because I’m still building my fan base my buzz isn’t buzzing yet so that’s why I give out so much free music.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
ShawnG0:don’t give up keep pushing have Patience take your time have faith in yourself
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
ShawnG0:so much happens were I’m from and in my family and threw out my daily routine its always something to write about as long as it really happened I’m gonna write about it anything else I leave to the rappers.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
ShawnG0:no band website I have a reverbnation, SoundCloud,YouTube,Facebook,
twitter and instagram
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
ShawnG0:I wouldn’t take the year off I would invest every dollar and work work work dropping project after video after project and ext.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
ShawnG0:sending direct messages to everybody on all my social media accounts asking to check out my new video or check out my new track I posted on SoundCloud.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
ShawnG0:most definitely I’m finishing up a e.p 11 tracks called “I Got Next” and I’m always dropping singles on my SoundCloud page also working on a collaboration project with my bros Smoke Jones Penny and wylie
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
ShawnG0:I Honestly don’t know I mean I know I would be working my kids gotta eat so ima work either way but I never really thought about it I feel like its the only thing I have left in this world my last play its like I’m living life on fourth down tryna a get a touchdown (Get rich) but wen i score then for the rest of my life we celebrate.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
ShawnG0:good question its one of the hardest things to do for me because I have to record sometimes I feel down and depressed if I can’t go do some music sometimes I give in and lower my standards in a low quality studio or arguing with my girl about me going to do music when we might have other house problems that may be more important at the time and I have three kids and I’m not always working so the way I do it is first off I have an amazing girlfriend who loves me and understands me and what I’m trying to accomplish she’s always there when I don’t pull threw which is rarely second I put work first before my music as much as I want it to be the other way around I know what’s best for my kids so I take advantage of that knowledge.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
ShawnG0:the upcoming of the most honest artist that there will ever be I was still finding myself in the intro of my career 2012-14 and 15 this year you will hear the growth and the truth in every song I put out I will never be someone else you always get ShawnG0.
