Exposed vocal- so tell us your story, where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Petey Da Don- Well I was born and raised in abbeville south carolina, which is a great small town where every one knows one another on a first name basis. After I heard so many tears by Tupac I knew then that I wanted to be a artist, by the way he’s my favorite lyricist. And it’s that motivation that gives me hope…..
Exposed vocals- How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Petey Da Don- Well I love mob movies and the godfather is my all time favorite, so that’s where da don comes from. Petey came from my grandmother who named me that after I was born, so I put em together and came up with petey da don.
Exposed Vocals- What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free?
Petey da don- I love online music sharing, I think it’s a great way to shop your music around. And yes I will give away my music for free, and that’s only because I know I can keep coming up with fire so I will give some away if anyone requests it. But only a select few of my songs.
Exposed Vocals- Since everyone was a start up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artist looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Petey Da don- yes I will, all you got to do is be devoted to your material and music and have the inspiration from everybody even if they don’t like your music. Never give up always strive to achieve your dreams… cause it’s not gon come to you, you have to go get what you want. So keep working hard and shopping your music.
Exposed Vocals- Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Petey Da Don- Well I go deep in my life and what I experienced in my life also what’s going on in real life. I feel you should be real with your lyrics and not fake. As for songwriting process, I listen to three of my favorite Tupac songs. And then I start writing…and I rap on my beats that I made.
Exposed Vocals- Do you have a bad website? What online platforms you use to share your music?
At the moment I have no band website, but it will be coming eventually. And I use reverbnation,soundcloud and coast2coast mxtapes,also you tube.
Exposed Vocals- If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do?
Petey Da Don- Well first I would help rebuild my community and help underprivileged kids achieve more in life than running in the streets and selling drugs..also I would invest in my indie label and scout raw unheard talent so I can help as many people as I can so they can taste a piece of the American dream.
Exposed Vocals- How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Petey Da Don- Well I always been the one person that push my own shit, cause I don’t have money like that to pay someone so i do it myself. If you want some done you have to do it yourself! That’s my motto. And honestly coast2coast mixtapes and reverbnation is what works best for me, And YouTube.
Exposed Vocals- So what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Petey Da Don- yes cause I’m working on my masterpiece album which u have five songs already and I got eight more to go! That shit gon be fire. And what’s next for me is to be able to perform and drop hit records for my fans and my state. I’m ready to go in.
Exposed Vocals- If you wasn’t making music, what would you be doing?
Petey Da Don- Well I probably would be selling or working a nine to five job, but I know I’m good enough to make it so I’m focused on my career at the moment.
Exposed Vocals- How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Petey Da Don- Well I got all the time in the world to accomplish my dream. I have no kids nothing that’s holding me back, so I can focus solely on my career..
Exposed Vocals- What should fans look forward to in 2016?
Petey Da Don- Well I love my fans and I’m gon drop masterpiece this year hopefully. And they should expect me to keep dropping fire for them, I feel the fans is one of the reasons I love making music. Cause when you make other people feel good you feel good. I love my fans.
