Exclusive Interview and Music Review for BoDee – Two Words
The delightful good vibes created by a stylish and blues-like guitar riff bring this song to life at the beginning. The recording is beautifully polished, the guitar sounds superb, the playing is stylish and mellow; it sets a great scene. The vocal performances that follow are unexpected, but a pleasure to hear – it’s great to witness music that was made along the road less traveled by.
The lyrics come completely out of the blue, the nature of the song, the melody, and the rap performance, all of which are pretty flawless in this case, they seem to be in conflict with the smooth sound of that guitar. It’s a brilliant juxtaposition, and alongside this there are some real moments of character and uniqueness to this whole track. The mellow and joyful vibe is abruptly contrasted with the special two words of the hook, and it shocks you when you listen, but in a great way. It’s another element to help make the music stand out, it’s hugely memorable, and as mentioned – the production and performances throughout this are fantastic, so you get swept up by the sound.
The switching from the sung melody to the rap is brilliant, the sung vocal is skillful, gentle, confident, controlled, and the rap has a similar personality to it but with (obviously) a much quicker pace, more lyrics fired out, much more confidence and even a little angst and attitude. It sounds great, the voice is compelling, it’s dramatic and clearly presented by someone who is strongly behind their own lyrics and well into the music. The passion is there, as is the musicality, the ups and downs, the hook. It’s a great song, nice vibes, and unusual enough to stick in your mind. It’s kind of a break up song to mark the end of all break up songs. A good switch up.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
BoDee: Wow, ok well I was born in Memphis, TN but I was raised in New Orleans, LA. Music had always been in my blood. I learned to play the Clarinet in Elementary School and it snowballed into multiple instruments. I was a band nerd really. As far as becoming an artist, well I started rapping when I was 10, I had a few offers to be signed between the ages of 14-16, but I didn’t actually begin to take it seriously until about 18. All I’ll say is blame it on my Uncle Damian.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
BoDee:Hmm I get this question a lot and the story is pretty personal, so the short version: it was a childhood name that just came natural to people so I stuck with it. I researched it though, and it means “key”, which is ironic because at times, I am told I am the “key” to making a difference. So that alone is pretty inspiring.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
BoDee:Well truthfully because I’m independent I think giving away free music helps in building a fan base. Even though I have music that I sell at live shows and on major retailers, All of my music is available for free download because I want my potential supporters to connect with me before committing to me. As a matter of fact my 1052 Ep comes out August 16th but you can go and download a free version now at https://bodeeofficial.com/music
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
BoDee: Oh, you want me to give up my secrets too?! Geez! Haha nah… really all I can say is LEARN the business. I can’t emphasize that enough, because so many artist get preyed upon (myself included) throughout their career and not knowing the business can make for some bad choices. Second, don’t be afraid of “NO”. That’s self explanatory.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
BoDee: I have, we all have, but I remain professional and usually improvise pretty quickly. I perform LIVE with no backing tracks so I can always “freestyle” something and it’ll go. One time it worked in my favor, I was in a contest, I forgot some lyrics, I had to think on my feet, so I “freestyled” and mentioned one of the judges and it blew them away. I won that night.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
BoDee:I haven’t quite toured yet as so much as to do dates out of town. But I have plenty of road stories. Like once back in 2010, I was on the road with my former manager JoJo. We were heading to Memphis from Orlando for an award show. Well, she had been driving a while and had gotten tired. I told her I would drive, but my DL was suspended. Well Im behind the wheel and I get pulled in Atl,but Before the officer gets to the car, I jumped in the backseat and told her to get behind the wheel….. Allegedly haha. So the officer apparently didn’t notice anything because he came to the window with no problem. Thank God Dodge Calibur Back Windows are small. Everything checked out and he let us leave,we were told we were pulled because we were in a rental with out of state tags, but I had to think, Why in the world would he not question me being in the backseat full of luggage and an empty passenger side with a driver wiping sleep from her eyes…..allegedly…. The world may never know.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
BoDee:I smoke a lot Marijuana hahaha. that’s all of the inspiration I need haha. Well that and life. I’m inspired by life. I observe and I think a lot. I challenge people’s thinking and I focus on how I can make a difference. My process is a mixture of mumbles, freestyles, brainstorming in my mind for awhile and when its time to write, it flows out like water. Its like ten minutes would go by literally and I’ll tell my producer, “I’m ready” (in my SpongeBob voice) and I get it in.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
BoDee: I do, my website is https://bodeeofficial.com I am also on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook @therealbodee.
My Soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/bodeeofficial has my music along with over 50k total plays which is a highlight for me.
And of course you can search me out on major retailers like Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and Google Play
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
BoDee:Well I was embarrassed at first but now Im like what the hell. IM A BELIEBER. There I said it.
