Music Review and Interview with Day Day G – Only Right
The first noticeable element of this track is the way the rhythm of the synth riff is quite unusually placed alongside the beat. The sound has fairly a displaced, perhaps dissonant sort of presentation to it, noticeable maybe because the intro is just the two sounds alone. It works in a way, it draws you in – it’s intriguing, and the vibe created by the two sounds is really pleasant. You quickly get used to the music, the simplistic nature of it somehow doesn’t stop it from filling the room entirely, the vocal flow on top of this adds to that rhythm and that good feeling.
The music has a certain loveliness to it that comes across as quite hypnotic. The chorus section has the same effect, you quickly get used to it, familiarise yourself with the pattern and the lyrics, and then the music fades out – that riff and that beat suddenly now very comfortable and cool sounding. The synth or bell riff, those Caribbean sounding keys, the notes chosen, and the fusing of rhythms, all works really well as a unit – to create an enticing and comforting piece of music.
Most of the lyrics slip past you on the first listen, the music takes over, the vocal rhythm is so neat and loyal to it’s flow that the whole track has this repetitive, soothing vibe about it. After a couple of listens you catch the words, the stylish and smart sound of the voices, the confident yet mellow performances – it all fits well with the track. The beat is fantastic, as a backing track there is so much to love about it – simple but effective, and the voices placed alongside the music compliment it well. The choir like chorus has a nice confidence and strength to it, adding further to the vibe.
