Long Island New York Unsigned Sensation Capital D The Definition is set to takeover the rap scene
So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
– I grew up in Long Island New York, from a very young age I have always been very much into hip hop. I have an older brother who is 8 years older then me and having a brother so much older allowed me to be exposed to many things kids my age weren’t normally exposed to. My brother has always been a hip hop head and being the typical little brother always tagging along with him, it rubbed off on me. A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Wu Tang, Biggie, Mos Def and Big Pun are just a few of the artists that were played on repeat in my brothers room. I remained strictly a hip hop fan for many years. Eventually as i got older I started messing around with free styling with my friends for fun. I would smoke in my friends Lincoln, we would put on a beat and freestyle for hours. As I got better I started to try and write rhymes, as my written rhymes continued to progress with each song I decided to try and take it seriously and see what I could do with it.
What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
– In my opinion giving music away for free in the beginning is a necessity. I currently give all of my music away for free because I feel its important to build somewhat of a following for yourself before charging for music. Simply put if someone doesn’t know the caliber of my music, why would they ever want to pay money to listen to it.
Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
– I gain songwriting inspiration from many different sources. A lot of it is fueled by things that anger me or leave a bad taste in my mouth. People trying to be something that they aren’t as well as the misguided route certain artists take in their attempt to gain popularity, are a few subjects commonly discussed in my music. My process for writing music is somewhat sporadic. I get ideas and inspiration at random times but it usually results in me pacing back and fourth in my room, blasting a random instrumental in my headphones.
Do you have a band website? Do you have a Facebook or Twitter? Do you use Bandcamp, Spotify, ExposedVocals or SoundCloud to share your music?
– I’m currently using Facebook, Instagram and Youtube as my main sources for promoting myself and sharing my music.

Youtube – www.youtube.com/DtheDefinition
Instagram – @capitaldthedefinition
What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
– A-ha – Take On Me, The Proclaimers – I’m Gonna Be, I also have a lot of Marvin Gaye, Al Green and Prince, but i wouldn’t really consider them to be embarrassing because i think they’re all dope, and I’m prepared to fight anyone who disagrees.
If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
– There aren’t really any places specifically that I would like to perform over others. I would just like to perform in front of a large crowd of thousands of people. Aside from the artists I’ve listed above I would also love to be on stage with Rage Against the Machine, they are my favorite band of all time.
So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
– I’m currently in the process of taking all of my music from my old mix tape and re recording those tracks over new original beats. I’m combining that with all of the new material I’ve written and creating my first album containing 15 to 20 tracks.
Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
– I’m not positive but I’m pretty sure my first album that I owned was a 311 album, my brother bought it for me for Christmas and I remember being real excited. For the most part though I never really had to go out and seek albums that I wanted because my brother had such an extensive collection.
