Hello my name is Adam Bottenfield, who goes by the name Prometheus the Producer. I was born in rural AL and began playing music at the age of seven when my father bought me my first guitar for Christmas. I developed a passion for music throughout my childhood as music was very prevalent throughout my home, and my parents encouraged me greatly to develop an ability to play an instrument. Throughout high school I treated music as its own subject. I studied it like I would study chemistry or calculus and developed a knack for writing melodies. I began producing in Pittsburgh when my friend in college introduced me to electronic music production software. For the first time in my life I was no longer limited by the instruments I owned or my own physical limitations—I had the sounds of thousands of instruments at my disposal and I could create symphonies on my laptop. During my freshman year, I developed moderate depression that has influenced everything I do since then. It is a personal mission of mine to inspire those with depression/mental disorders to achieve their dreams and reach significance. My goal is to reach as large of an audience as I can and hopefully pass on the “light” that I have discovered through my music, just as the mythical Prometheus gave light to mankind. My album “Alchemistry” will be a concept album retelling my experiences thus far with the focus of  redemption as its overarching theme.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

Prometheus the Producer: I grew up in rural Alabama and got into music when my dad bought me a guitar for Christmas at the age of about six or seven. I continued my music throughout my youth, but in high school I really got into it. I treated music like its own subject, so I would study it like I would chemistry or calculus. I don’t think I ever really decided to become a musician, it’s just a natural extension of who I am and I couldn’t stop creating even if I wanted to.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

Prometheus the Producer: I came up with Prometheus originally as a joke, I would say I was making some “fire” beats so I called myself Prometheus. However, the more serious I got, and I realized what I was capable of, I began to have a real goal for my music, that hopefully it would be a light to shine on people that needed it. So just as the mythical Prometheus gave light to mankind, so would I.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

Prometheus the Producer: I think people have access to any music they could ever want for free, so my opinions you might as well make it easier for them. There’s a lot of artists today that don’t ever put out music to buy, so I think the industry is really going in the free direction.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Prometheus the Producer: Swallow your pride. Do what you have to do to get noticed.

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

Prometheus the Producer: I don’t ever think of an idea and then just write a song about it. What usually happens is I find I actually interpret my experiences and feelings through my music, so the songs end up coming first and later I discover what they’re actually about.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

Prometheus the Producer: Currently I’m working on a website but I use most forms of social media to get my music out there, Soundcloud, Facebook, twitter, and Bandcamp.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

Prometheus the Producer: I would upgrade all my music equipment and complete a brand new project. Why take time off from doing what you love?

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

Prometheus the Producer: Social media is a huge tool that allows anyone to be heard, so it can be positive and negative. It’s easy to get your stuff out there, but very difficult to be heard through all the clutter.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

Prometheus the Producer: Alchemistry will drop this summer so be on the lookout for that. It’s a concept album with the theme of redemption retelling my experiences over the past two years. It’s going to be big. The difficulty has been that my music doesn’t fit in any specific genre so I feel like I’m paving my own path. The hard part is telling people exactly what my music is about because of this.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

Prometheus the Producer: I go to school for electrical engineering, so I would continue that.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

Prometheus the Producer: It’s difficult, especially with school, but you just have to sacrifice who you are today for what you will become. Time spent now improving yourself will set you apart eventually.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

Prometheus the Producer: Alchemistry, Alchemistry, Alchemistry. I can’t stress it enough.
